Tamron or Sigma 10-20 or 24

Which is the better quality lens, do people normally opt for Sigma out of the 2 brands?

Never used a Tamron. Have a Sigma 10-20mm and its a great lens, i really dont use it as much as i should!

I had a Tamron 18-250mm on my D40 - was quite good and got me started

Call me thick but is the 10-20 a macro lens?

Nope it's an ultra wide angle, macro lenses generally refer to a close focus ability rather than a specific focal length, that said they tend to come in 35, 50 and 100 mm flavors
