taping before PCing

i am forever having problems with taping up my car before PCing it. the tape i use is from B&Q and is their "adheres to all surfaces, non sticky removal" etc etc but it just doesnt stay in place!

does the 3M blue tape really make a massive difference and if so best place to buy from?

could it also be that the tape wont adhere to plastics because of the products i am using to clean and protect them? its only AG dressing.

i hate taping cars up its a nightmare.

Like tapinng up the wing mirrors and door handles etc - they are all water traps and water gets underneith the tape and falls off... iv began not been too bothered now and just being carefull with a spot pad.

i am always careful anyway as i know that the tape is likely to come off so just try and avoid the area!

i do clean the plastics and protect them after the PCing but they still seem to be quite slippery, maybe i am using to much product on them . . .

after the first initial wash, dry the car well and use the tape round the textured and handles ect... should stay on just fine

The main purpose of the Blue painters type tape is it does not leave any residue behind when removed, sticks no better than any other normal stuff. Clean the trim first with some APC.

sorry to jack the thread.....on the topic of tape

doing a 50/50: how do you get a clean comparison line without causing problems with the tape and your pads? Dont want to get the tape caught up in the machine and damage anything or the pad.
Cheers

machine polishing^^ gets rid of swirls/random scratches which dont go through the clear coat

most tapes are quite smooth lad, i go over my tapes that have stuck to paint work and they dont budge, its only when you get a lose end the sticks up that i worry, but have never had tape catch round the pad.

i dont believe it can do that much damage to the pads either so i would worry too much matey.

saw a thread on DW (tried looking it up there, couldnt see it) where something similar had happened that was all :approve:

no worries chap, best thing is to make sure paintwork is entirely dry, then use the heat from your hands to make sure it adheres to the surface properly, meaning there isnt much chance of it peeling.
