Tapping in Engine

Had a tapping in the engine now for 3 days seems to be the tappetts. Had an oil change 4k miles ago. No warning light has come on in the car.

any ideas??
its a mk1 172 btw

get some feeder gages, whip off the rocker cover and have a look see....

DO NOT take the cam cover off.

The cam bearings are built into the cam cover, you will require removal of the cambelt, and the timing tools required to re-time the engine ones you have taken them off.

Then the torque procedure for the cam cover must be followed.

The RS has hydraulic radius rollerpath followers, nothing you can check with feeler gauges.

An engine is comprises of lots of moving parts, and i cant tell you which one via the internet......bar guesstimate.

its new to me, dunno if its news to you, but we've secured a deal which will see injector pricing drop by about 35% to the norm, which is nice.

Have you checked the oil level on the dipstick by any chance? Dont rely on waiting for a warning light to come on.

my engine is fairly tapping! need my aux belt changing soon though too. but i put my tapping down to all the engine work i've had, but listening to my mates cup his runs alot sweeter and quieter

i think i will do an oil change see if that stops it. if not ill get a garage to see whats what
