Tatty ph1 steering wheels - easy fix?

The majority of ph1 172s in AutoTrader have steering wheels that look like they've been dipped in acid - they're completely disintegrated.

Is there a common fix for this? Maybe an upholstry co. could stitch something over it or re-cover?

The ph1 steering wheel are made out of rice paper. Mine is down to the thread! Makes it real difficult to sell the car.

A retrim will cost about £100.
