Taxing new Clio

Car  Oyster Card
I'm pretty much decided that after my old Clio had he's little fight with an Escort and lost I'm going to buy a clean low milage 54k (with history as proof) Mk1.
Problem being it isn't taxed and I'd like to drive it home legally, I was wondering if my Dad could get it taxed for me as you have to hold a valid cert of insurance well my Dad is covered to drive 3rd party cars on his certificate or does the certificate have to be for that car?
Obviously I'll get insurance but it'll take a few days for them to send proof out.

has to be for that car unfortunately. then you also need to have proof of ownership.

iirc as long as you can prove you purchased the car that day, you can legally drive it to your home address, in the same way you can drive your car to an MOT centre without tax if you have an appointment.

dont quote me on that tho lol - but might be worth investigating.

To be honest I'm sure a copper would turn a blind eye should I show him the V5 that I brought it that day of course I'll get insurance sorted out first too.
