Temp Gauge 172

  RARE Unmolested Corsa sxi
weird!?!?

faulty temp sensor i bet.

moved quite quick though and only when you set off, so cold air would have hit the sensor?

my best guess.

Has it done it since?

to be honest, it usually does it now and again when im on the motorway travelling faster than im supposed to.

coolant levels are fine and the car works properly (as you can see) its just the needle's on the piss!

flush the coolant system, would be a good idea. Start off with cheapest ideas first.

thats been done after a hose burst on Janspeed's rolling road about 6k ago... was doing it before then too.

the temp gauge is at half way as per normal, i boot it up to 60 while the gauge drops to a quarter, then back up to a half as i slow down.

its on the thermostat housing which is on the end of the cylinder head (gearbox end). there will only be one sensor on the housing so you cant pick the wrong one.

aye i know not been on here for ages.drifted off as this place got a bit mad a year or so ago. did go on rsc for a while but not keen on the lass that runs it not very approachable. gonna renew my membership to cs now and try to get to meets etc.

I just fitted a thermostat for the same kind of fault if the car was idleling when up to normal temperture the needle would drop down (temp sensor was woring correctly) went you give it a good rev the needle would go back up.

im confused by your post... are you saying the new sensor fixed the problem?

no went the car was at normal operating temp and you were driving it would be fine, if the car was left to idle/no throttle then the temp gauge would drop down bit by bit. checked the sensor using clip and that seemed fine, so i fitted a new thermostat and it seems to be fixed.
