Temp needle going up then down

  Liquid Yellow 182
My temp needle is taking awhile to go up then starts going down, alo my car is using more fuel then normal. Is it time to change thermostat? What about temp sensor

I'd change the thermostat. Temp sensor normally makes the gauge do some really odd things

Mine would take ages to warm up, sit below half way normally and only get up to half way when giving it some serious stick or in traffic. Got the thermostat changed and it sticks to the middle always once warm.

old stat tends to cause quick but smooth changes on the gauge. Faulty sensor tends to make the needle jump

Just change your thermostat. The fact that is it jammed open longer... is the reason your using more fuel as its running richer, as when the temp sensor see's the coolant is colder.... the ECU richens the fuel mixture.

Thought to my self i will phone eurocarparts, they got exact same one for £15 i said could i have part number and do it online so get discount, they gave it me and ive just got it for £11 with housing, gasket and seals lol. Is it easy to fit?

From what I seem to remember the ECP one isn't that great. Stick with genuine for the thermostat.

Try Adam who works at the Renault Parts Supply Base. Usually cheapest 01902 439264

I did research on this site and most seemed to favour the genuine part.

Mine was genuine renault part.

I took airbox out, bottom rad hose off, 3x 10mm bolts on stat housing removed, old stat out, flushed with water, new stat in, 3 bolts in housing, bottom rad hose back on, fill with new type D coolant, run engine up to temp, bleed & top up if needed.

Bleeder is on stat housing and is the only one as far as I'm aware. But that guide is for a 182 not 1.2

Good luck with it.

genuine should be £20.20. Had poor experiences of non genuine so I won't use them anymore.

I've tried non Renault thermostat's and ECP's and the ECP one simply does not work, put it in and it was pretty ill fitting in the housing, fired it up anyway and the needle pretty much shot up straight away. Bought the genuine Renault one and the needle shot up aswell but it turned out to be a fucked earth strap! Tried both thermostats again and the renault one was fine but the ECP one shot up again!

Its the seals that tend to be shite (especially with the QH kits). Deffo use a genuine kit but always test the stat in a pan of boiling water before installing it as I've had a couple from Renault in the past two months simply not open.

So the best bet is just get it from renault? No were else do genuine ones? What about this adam guy at renault parts suply base?
This might be stupid but what should happen if i put it in boiling water?

Without going in to what, why and how a thermostat works... Drop the new stat in some water which covers the unit fully. Bring the water to boil and once the boiling pan water reaches 89 degrees the stat will start to open. When it does pull the stat out and watch it slowly close.

(FUCKTARD WARNING: BOILING WATER IS HOT AND WILL BURN YOUR SKIN, MAKE YOU SWEAR AND GENERALLY BE PRETTY PAINFULL)

If it opens and closes okay it is safe to fit to your car.

Thanks Mick haha. Is Renault best bet then? Or is there somewere else that does genuine stats? £27.50 seems alot.

Well, Renault SAS don't make them, they're out sourced but the best place to buy one from is your local dealer. The QH stats are actually fine but the seals are just terrible in comparison to the genuine items (they actually measure as thicker) and normally leak after a couple of months.

Stat kit part no: 8200772985 (Comes with seal)

The part retails at £16.83 +vat (£20.20 all done) but we sell the genuine kit for £17. Unfortunatly, by the time you add postage you may as well just get it from your local dealer for a few quid more.

The ECP one didn't fit in the housing. I had to file the edges down. It's stopped working again so I'm changing it free of charge next time the car comes in to me

So that part number you give me is the one from renault themselves yea? Is that with housing and gasket? Or stat on its own?
How much postage do you add on then mate? So £17 +?
