My temperature needle starting waving between min and half yesterday. today its not going much about the first notch. Would that be the thermostat do you think?

When you say it was swinging between the two do you mean rapidly? If so just change the sensor just now. And when cold the rev limit is 6.8k and 7.2k warm.

Yeah i guess you could say rapid. I just drove it then and it didnt get to warm, turned it off then back on again. It shot up to warm then dropped to 1/4. Then back to warm again..haha

It also limits at 6.8k.

Thats CTS rather than thermostat, no way an engine will change temp that fast. Give the loom a wiggle first, I've got a loose connection on mine that plays silly buggers with the temp.

Ahh rich you say.. Mine doesnt seem to have as good mpg at the mo so could make sense. Thanks gents. Where is the coolent temp sensor? Also, where's best to get one? GSF?

I was told by my dealer that it's not actually the sensor, but dodgy wiring. Either way, get it looked at fast.

It may seem quite innocent, but it massively over fuels the engine. Caused mine to break down. Get it sorted as soon as possible.

Ah right. So who am i best to take it too? If its just a sensor i'll swap it as soon as i know which one it is. If its wiring it needs to go to someone..

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
sensors are known to be a little prone to breaking. Thermostat is still well worth replacing, should be done every couple of years really, yet most have never been touched from new

Thanks mate. Thats a bit worrying. So should i just change the sensor and cross my fingers? Another worrying thing is today its being absolutely fine. Where best to take it in the SW if a new sensor doesnt sort it? Will it need rewiring?

The right part for what? We're talking about the coolant temp sensor. Your problem may be the thermostat.

Ah wrong part then guessing I need the coolant temp sensor as the gauge is reading 1 block lower than the middle

you only need to worry about the sensor if the gauge is erratic (or non functioning). consistently low temperature will be down to a lazy thermostat

Got a genuine CTS from Renault for £22.00. All issues sorted and i've seen the highest mpg figures i have since i had the car. It was on 44 earlier on the trip to work?! Also i have my 7.2k limiter back..:)

Thanks gents.
