Temperature Gauge Way out! any ideas?

For a few months now my Temp gauge reckons im living in Australia. it does vary and goes up and down when the temperature does, but it goes down to 22oC when its like 0oC and up to about 29 when its probably 10.

Doesnt really bother me as such, but am curious. Started happening in november.

Any ideas?

Maybe the sensor has come loose so its getting warm air off something. Or the wires gone. Dont know where it is though.

have you by any chance pulled your mirrors in recently when parking or something - i did and mine went up to 59 degrees! i have stopped pulling the mirrors in and theres no problem - shows normal temp again

Wires dont always just go. As they degrade the resistance alters. Temperature sensors often work on resistance

mine is showing stupid tempratures at the moment, -10 an things. Is the temprature sensor in the wing mirrors then?

It's probably just faulty. The one on my 172 failed within 3 weeks of having the car. Dealer just put a new one in.

mine fixed itself somehow on my 172 use to say 50 degrees when it was -1:S

me not being used to the renault "reliability" essence, when is it likely that high temperature issues get a bit more serious i.e. head gasket failure with matters of over heating. This is coming from someone who has only ever dealt with rover K series engines.....:quiet:

hes on about the temp gauge next to the clock that gives outside temp rather than engine temp ;)
