Testing to see if a car has a quaife diff

  172 Rally Car
Hi guys,
There a way to test to see if a car has a quaife diff fitted without driving it?

I'm thing jacking it up and turning the wheels (assume two people - one on each wheel ) I would think that if someone holds one wheel (with a socket on the hub for example) and someone else turns the other wheel then they should both try to turn in the same direction?

Can anyone try that for me?

Cheers
Sam

General rule of thumb, if its lsd both wheels in the air spin one wheel and the other should spin in the same direction. If it's open diff they will both spin in different directions

the quaife is auto torque biasing so would require someone to hold the other wheel to provide resistance, they should try turning in the same direction when you try to rotate your wheel but won't feel fully locked. if it's for rallying spend your money on a gripper diff instead

Could someone with a quaife have a mess and try it for me? I need to confirm if a car I am buying has one - doing burnouts isn't an option lol

My cars a non starter at a mo so not possible. If your buying a car then ask for proof its fitted with one, like i said you can check the serial number when you remove the NS driveshaft, the gear oil can be pored back in so wouldn't cost anything to check.

Find a B road come to a tight corner 2nd gear mid corner foot flat with traction control
Off, if it has a diff youl be able to tell! Itl pull you around the corner sounds daft but youl
Feel the diff grip

Pop the drive shaft out. If it looks like this:

You have a quaife

I was under the impression that a Quaife ATB could not be tested via conventional ways making a visual inspection the only true way to see what it is.
