The 200

Had it over a week now, put some miles under the wheels, mix of every road type possible! Very happy so far.
Speed wise, it still feels tight, but not far off the pace of my prev ph1 172. The cabin and build is in a different league, penalty being a massive weight increase. Driving position is good, steering wheel is too thick for me (thinking of changing for an r26 wheel). Steering is average. Well weighted and uber accurate, but devoid of feel. Very similar to a mk5 golf gti in that respect.
Gearshift is better than any of the mk2's I owned, just as well as the short gearing means I'm using it a lot!! Throttle response is as per for fbw, I feel like I'm driving in someone elses hiking boots lol. In short, compared to cable, it's crap. Horrible, worst aspect of the car.
Mpg I'm averaging 29, so about 10% worse than the ph1. To be expected given the weight.
Motorway/a-roads it's a more enjoyable car than the 172/trophy. Comfy, grippy, but less agile. Makes up for it by being more stable and precise. On b roads, the 172/trophy is more fun, 100%. I think the 200 can carry more speed, but its less enjoyable despite that.
Overall, asked to pick between a trophy and the 200, I think I'd still prefer the trophy, just! It's more fun, and it feels more special. The best way I could put it, the 200 is the better all round car, the trophy is a better performance car.

pics/spec?

No pics, it's ugly lol. Spec wise it's just a basic 200. No cup packs, mainly because it was a cancelled order so I didn't have a choice. In all honesty I'm happy with the ride/handling balance. Having been in a meg with v3's and being massively impressed with the ride quality, that's the only potential upgrade for me suspension wise.

Only mod that I'm seriously looking at is the cup rack. I'm going to book a test drive to see if it is that much quicker/preferable. If so I'll just get one fitted. I'm sure Fred will be dreading that call lol!

What about the brakes? I found going from the 182 the brakes were on another level, best improvement imo.

Um, not really tbh! But then my 172 weighs a fraction over a ton, is on race pads with braided hoses etc. I notice the weight under heavy braking, I'd be surprised if it could out brake the 172 if I'm honest.

I'll be getting it on the scales next time it's at Freds, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 1400kg with fuel on board.

I don't mean to sound negative about it, I'm very very happy with it, it's just not as exciting as a light, coilovered, noisy 1ton hatch lol. But then I wasn't expecting it to be.

The areas it excels in aren't exciting, but they make it very easy to live with.

You'll have to have a go in mine, it's slightly noisy, slightly stripped and coilovered lol.

Good review, I despised my Astra gsi because of the electric steering and the electric unresponsive throttle. However press seem to tho love the 200 especially autocar, who seem to think it's the best. Good to see a slightly differing opinion from a trophy owner.

Not that it's the same but my girlfriend has a 2007 dynamique and I just can't get over how big the thing is compared to my 182!!

I was never a fan of the mk3 steering feel, feels very electrically operated and the gearbox didn't feel as tight as I would have expected.

I like a heavy steering feel, fells more like it's you driving the car. More connected with the wheels.

I know. I'm in work tomorrow, a quote for remedial work due to your fucked up genetics will be sent then.

Ride quality on yours was very impressive, and it looks a good height as well (low but not rude boi low).

I don't think I will change it though. A grand+ spent on a bit more training and a euro road trip will be more fun I think!

I went from a Trophy to a 200 cupped, and sort of know what you mean about the excitement. But I think the 200 is much more composed, and for that I feel I can go quicker in it, whereas you feel every little thing through your ass in the T and therefore hold back more if you're unsure. Both brilliant cars, but both good in their own way. My winner is the 200 though

I think its unfair to compare the trophy to the non cup.

I agree. When i was buying my R27 i test drove a standard 197 (non cup) and loved it. So thought 'well the R27 will be even better' so put my money down. The difference was amazing, felt a lot sharper. My point is surly a 200cup or 200 with cup packs would feel better, and also be a better comparison to the trophy and the cup!?

Anyway glad your enjoyin the car sure it is good fun! :)

Yes the difference between the non cup and the cup is massive.

Unless it's got a couple of thousand miles on then the review is null and void, they are so tight from new it's silly, they really do change character after some miles!

Think you will regret not getting the Cup pack as it really changes the steering feel and handling aspects IMO.

Interesting comparisons though :)

How many thousand miles? Ive been in two, one with 6k and another with 13k, still felt slugish.

Like I've said, if the suspension becomes an issue it'll be on KW's. And they truely muller any standard setup!

The steering can be changed (ie fit the cup rack), so I'm def going for a test drive!

  182 Trophy
The 200 non cup is meant to be a soft ride etc with less responsive steering, the difference between 200 and 200 cup is the biggest out of any of the clio's

No more trackdays for you then? Or do you have another plan for that?

I'm not sure. Got the 172 to exactly where I wanted it. Awesome to drive. But (sad as it is) I got bored with trackdays.
Don't see me doing any in the near future.
