Its a bit of a big statement, but these are DEFINATLY in the short list.

TOCA 2 Touring Cars, PS1 or PC.
This game still needs an Xbox 360 remake. Back in the 90's BTCC was epic just like this game. UK tracks, all the BTCC cars and some extra cars if you use the "MECHANIC" cheat . The crash physics and driver AI was way ahead of its time! And to top it off, Tiff doing the voice over. Epic.

This game was too fun, again all the licensed cars from F1, and pretty cool damage effects for the time.

For me, Powerdrome on the Amiga was one of my faves....

TOCA was brilliant (at the time) and as others - far ahead of its rivals. Grand Prix 2 on the PC was sorted as well.

Gran Turismo 1 was much better than GT2, imo.

Never played on a driving game since that can compare to this in terms of realism.
