So finally bit the bullet and made a project thread.
So where to begin; I was actually eyeing up RB, GW and UR 197's after having written off my sport yellow Megane 250 cup.
I was never keen on 200 front ends in the beginning, but decided to see if there was any AG 200's around as I'm all about that yobo factor, and the shape of the Megane had warmed me up to the front of the 200. I'd seen one online, which was a complete dog, and the only one other which was a high miles cup (tbf the dog was also the same mileage).
Standard, nothing had been done to it, black speedlines, no spoiler, AC.
I wasn't fussed for Recaros, I thought they were overrated personally having had them in the Megane.
85,000 miles, 1 owner, FSH, which meant it also had the cambelt done!
Obviously was a bit anxious with it being a high miler, but made a trip by train from Manchester to Broxbourne to view the car.
Drove it, absolutely no synchro issues, no play in the joints, exhaust wasn't blowing either.
Bought it and left.
Forgive the quality of this image, but it's the only one I have just after buying it and then making the drive home:
So after getting home, black diamonds on! (black diamond crew represent)
I then very quickly sought to get a new exhaust and opted for the Scoprion non-res as that's what I had on my Meg. I forgot how much louder it would be on a NA car, but I love it! 😂
Also fitted some silver visions and an ITG panel filter. (I'm all about the little touches as you'll see).
Noises
The dreaded flexis went not long after, and I bought a second hand manifold and had that welded up and fitted..
Was like this for a few months, then decided to get myself a sprint spoiler, was never really into the trolley look of the cup spoiler.. ?
Whilst getting that painted up, got the the door strips painted to match, and the handles and wing mirrors done in black, and bought some black center caps to top it off.
Also painted the bullets with the AG writing myself.
About a month after, it had it's first MOT and it had a list of advisories (no fail), so when I was going abroad, left the car with my local garage and had them carry out a slew of work and fit a load of goodies which I had been buying up till that point.
New rear caliper
New front shocks
New gearbox oil and seals
Mintex m1144 all round
H&R springs
20mm Eibach spacers
HEL braided lines in green
Door shut rubbers replaced
Aircon regass
x2 AD08R's fitted to the front
So to say the least when I got the car back it felt transformed, the combo of the AD08R and the H&R made my commute drive amazing, I drive 4-5 miles in town then 4-5 miles of windy B road at 5:30am, bliss!
I actually had a set of TPI studs to go on too, but they don't fit the holes on the Renault wheels where the unthreaded part is. ?
Then some small detail bits the following weekend:
Then some small detail bits the following weekend:
New carpets
New pedals
Smaller aerial
Steering wheel insert
New plain reg plates
and a Sprint Booster, which I get asked about all the time, to the point I have a 3 paragraph copy and paste reply saved, basically I found the car hard/laggy to rev match and heel/toe compared to the Meg 250, and it felt unresponsive, this fixed all my issues.
Had the car like this for some time, over that time had the lower ball joints replaced.
I had started toying with new wheels, was looking at O.Z. Alleggerita's but had been given a 3 month lead time for them from O.Z, and I'm impatient..
Some legend called @Christopher suggested ATS GTR's and pointed me towards APmotorsport, who just happened to have a second hand set!
R17, ET57, 8J
Bought, and then machined down some black bolts to get my TPI studs fitted with them.
I couldn't get the center caps on at this point as the bore fitted so snug to the face there wasn't room for the clips to locate:
Got myself some 5mm spacers on so I could get the caps on!
Also spruced up the engine bay a bit with an impulse buy on some second hand pipes:
Some time after, I started feeling like I had to press my brakes quite a bit to get them to bite, and I came to the assumption the discs had never been changed in all it's life due to the lip on them.
So HC Brembo fronts, and some drilled standards for the rear (mainly to save a few quid).
Car has been like this pretty much since, although my manifold got wrecked by a speed bump pothole combo, so I uprated this time, bought the Predator system from Kamracing.
No videos as of yet, doesn't change the noise a whole lot, but goddamn it pops, crackles and burbles A LOT now.
Also seen a set of VXR seats with custom rails at a bargain price, so another impulse buy it was!
These completely change the seating position, they sit a good 2-3 of inches lower than the standard seats, you feel very 'in' the car.
Also comfier than the recaros that were in my Megane, slightly more splayed edges, and a thicker base, which makes longer drives much more bearable.
I then got my green belts fitted which I had lying around for year, sorry @Stevef175 😅
And the more recent bits I've got done, some colour coded RS badges for the front grill and boot lid, and also added a bit of green trim to the dash strips.
And I think that brings the car up to date!
On the horizon, wheel refurb, and got a full spare set of brakes getting painted in purple.
Probably a wheel re-trim, and perhaps projectors.
If you've made it this far,
I'll leave you now with a couple of shots with the car now sitting on 104k miles!
