The Ford Appreciation Thread

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
Saw my very first mk2 Escort RS 1800 in the metal yesterday at the NEC Classic Car Show. It was spotless.. a real credit to its owner. I didn't get any pics to share with you though unfortunately.

It was amazing

There re were a surprising amount of Fiesta Super Sports there too that I spent some time dribbling over, and an extremely tidy looking Stratos Silver (irrc) ph1 XR2, just the same as my old one.

Fsntastic day, at a brilliant show!

:(
don't worry about taking them, I never do!! what I hate is that as soon as you go to take a pic 300,000 people always come along & get in the way

There's about £2 million pounds worth in that last pic!

There is cracking thread on ph with all the build pics etc.

Indeed it was Diana's car. It's probably one of the most sought after Ford's ever made. Imo 150k+ is nothing to proper collectors.

Standard Escort Cosworth wheels chap. The Escort Gti had smaller similar looking ones, less dish.

Didn't even realise they made reps, always assumed they were standard and the Gti ones were smaller.

as Stu says, they're definitely not standard.. I can't decide if I like them that big or not - I seem to also be on my own in hating the quad headlamps on the EsCos. :nono:

My old man had one when I was around the age of 8, full M.A.D. spec - basically the car that numbed my perception of 'fast'.

Didn't even realise they made reps, always assumed they were standard and the Gti ones were smaller.

GTI ones look waaaaank in comparison, no where near as wide! :)

No they aren't standard, they are aftermarket 18 inch versions that were commissioned. No way you'd get those front brakes behind the standard offset 16 inch ones.

Totally agree, the quad lamps only suit certain colours, and I think the same about the wheels, sometimes they look out of proportion with the rest of the car.

Yeah those are copies of the escos wheel but scaled up, its why the spokes look longer relative to the size of the centre.

Mondeo ones were same diameter (16") but narrower than the escos.

I heard that even though the Escort Cossie replica wheels were bigger it was still difficult to get big brakes behind them, is that true ?

I think that blue one looks wrong on gold wheels, it's sort of clio williams, or scooby esque now.

depends on the size of brakes and caliper dimensions, I can't remember the offset of those 18 inch rep wheels, but you can get some pretty big calipers behind them.

The spokes dont offer great clearance so some calipers that are bulkt still wont fit like they would on Comp MO or similar.

I just think they look wrong, the ratio of spoke to centre size etc is ruined

Has anyone got anymore info of that RS200's photo? Was it for a promotional advert or just taken in a warehouse where someone was working?

I think that Rondell's look the sh*t on the Escort! imo there is no better wheel for them.

On that red one, it's odd how he's had it de locked, but it has a non colour coded door handle :S it's still the nuts though!
