A few from the weekend up in Glencoe at a wet and windy downhill practice. The race was cancelled due to severe weather this morning.

A few nice cars turned up yesterday. Spotted them this morning too and they weren't conserving fuel....

Cheers mace!

The time it takes to get shots differs for each subject in all honesty for example.. Today i spent 1 hour on the Inner Farne Islands, took just shy of 500 shots and have about 60-70% which i could quite happily upload.

Heres another one:

and the other extreme was last jan with the kingfisher where i spent over 8 hours in the snow waiting for a handful of decent images.

This is one of them:

I've spent two years just taking wildlife photos because I enjoy it so much, it's relaxing, fascinating and I like the fact that you never know quite whats gonna turn up!

That Kingfisher shot is stunning. As are the puffins too.

Fair play to you for sticking it out for 8 hours (in one spot?)

What lense do you use? The metadata doesn't show anything.

Thanks mate, Yeah in one spot... that day made me invest in some decent waterproof boots!

I use a Canon 300mm F4L and I take all data of my images and resize to help prevent people stealing them! No data.. cant claim them as their own!

This thread makes me sad.

I have a canon EOS 350D with 18-55mm standard lens and a Sigma 10-20mm lens...

And I can't get pictures anywhere near as good as any of the ones in here. I dont know if I need a new camera body or not but surely a 350D should still be able to get some good shots? :(

Don't think a better camera will give you better photos. Completely wrong attitude to have.

What sort of problems are you having?

Yeah I know it's wrong attitude, as I got the 350d to get familiar with SLR photography first.

I dunno if it's lack of filters (have UV and CPL for 18-55mm lens but none for sigma) but I just can't get ..

That shot, if it makes sense.

Every picture I seem to take looks exactly like.. a picture.. I've had a look at your site loads Dan, and the pictures are "moments" that you've captured, maybe I need to move somewhere else where the scenery is better! haha.

I think perhaps the 10-20mm lens was a bad choice too, only liked using it indoors and at the odd party etc, outside.. it's useless. I can't get any decent shots outside at all.

The 10-20mm is a cracking lens, but in some respects in is quite limiting.

The 18-55 will be fine for the normal landscape shots. I've got no idea where you live, but just have a look online for areas nearby of 'natural beauty' or similar.

Like the photo I entered in this months comp, I know from reading online you can get some cracking shots from there, yes you have to be lucky with the weather too, but just keep going out and trying new places.

What sort of shots do you want the most? Landscape, cars, macro etc?

Yeah I find myself going back to my 18-55 lens with CP filter for outdoor stuff most... Car stuff is actually my only strong point IMO, as you can get up close with it and good angles arent hard to achieve...

Post editing i'm fine with too...

I think Landscape stuff is the area I think i'm absolutely PISH at, wouldn't mind a 70-300mm lens as I believe that would be the "next" one to get...

Bit scared to get a 70-200 as it's 4x the price and my skills at the mo don't justify that kinda cash.

Merk those two lens' you have stated are the two I use. I have no problem and have taken some great pictures with. I think you need a bit of inspiration. You find a 10-20 limiting? Then a 70-300 will be even more so unless you have inspiration.

I dont need inspiration to take pictures as I've been a member on deviantart for years now and always go on there to have a look at the photography, I guess I'm struggling to find some decent shots with 10-20mm. It's fantastic indoors like I said but struggling to find any other uses.

10-20mm is a fab lens. No good for taking pictures of things far, far away (well, depends how much of the frame you want to fill! ) which is obvious as it's not a telephoto lens, but other than that, it's brilliant :) I love mine !!

LOL, I'm such a child

350 isn't the greatest camera compared to today's options BUT it's what you make of it !!!

Personally I would say if you have any DSLR made in the past 5/6/7 years then for the average 'amatuer' it's about 5% of what makes a good photo. Newer or higher spec DSLRs only really come into their own above older bodies for specialist areas of photography, demanding clients or really extreme conditions. I will use my camera body until it physically breaks or perishes, preferring to spend money on lens or accessories.

The 10-20 is an amazing lens, but you've got to be passionate about what you're shooting. For example really good landscape photography can take weeks of plannng, waiting and quite specialist knowledge of light, weather and conditions (that's why it's not for me!), at the same time there are guys who make motorsport photography look easy, but behind those shots will be years of practice, thousands of deleted photos and a books worth of silly mistakes.
