^^ Barry your bird shots are amazing! Been having a look at your flickr - some stunning shots!
What lens are shooting these with? They're razor sharp and the detail is amazing!

Thank you, I use the canon 300mm f4 L prime, its non IS but as long as i keep the shutter speed above 1/500 i find that theres no need to worry about camera shake.

Thanks Barry. I'm quietly really impressed with my photo, lol.

I absolutely LOVE your bird shots. I keep my eye on your flickr

Thanks!

I know it's a touchy topic in photography but have you tried applying a bit if HDR to that image? Rusty photos look awesome with HDR. Theres even a group for it on Flickr lol

some of my favs from 2009, some of which you have already seen.

Sorry to post so many, but these images have done so well in publications that i found it difficult to leave some of them out.

Revels please feel free to remove as many as you like, having looked back at the post i think i have hogged the limelight a tad too much and didn't realise the 3 image limit.

Gone past my 15 mins edit period......sorry

None need to be removed mate, you are lucky enough to take such shots and we are lucky enough to have you post them.

Who is the bird? Although the troop shot with the helicopter is awesome and still my favourite.

Im a complete beginner but I am enjoying taking photos so much...

You can get a plugin that will do it in photoshop for you but the best way to do it would be take 5 exposures of it, from -2 through to +2 and use photomatix to merge them, or photoshops version!

A quick attempt..

Ah thanks. I quite like that. Don't have photoshop but might have a go at doing it myself...

I don't normally like HDR but will definitely give it a go.

It's alright until its over done, the colours being way off and it looks like a cartoon rather than a photo! but for shots like that or anything old + rusty it works a treat for detail.

Planetx those are some awesome photos, really good on all levels, technical, composition etc, obviously it helps to have such interesting subject matter but you still need the skills to turn it into what you have!

Its not a bad shot but depth of field drops off a lot to the right hand side and given you've focused on a texture shot thats a shame.

I agree. Unfortunately I'm still learning and I was just walking around the garden taking random shots.

Playing with long exposures, trying to do a sort of messy students room thing for my 52. They are pretty w@nk but I quite like how blue they are!

planetx's pics are breathtaking, could sit and look through them all day tbh :)

I'm no expert and this was taken with my new Canon Powershot SX200 IS which I am only just learing how to use. Comments welcome....

Some seriously amazing pics in this thread!

The first one here was taken on a camera phone, hence the not so great quality.

Im a total amateur but was quite proud of these.

Me again. Been playing around with some flameless candles tonight. I'm still trying to figure out all the settings and I know I still have a lot to learn but I really quite like these.

All of the above were taken on a Canon 1000D. The first three with the 18-55 kit lens, and the last two with a 50 f1.8 mkII.
