I just went for the new X79 Deluxe. Was having memory training issues with my old PX79 Pro (It is almost 4 years old to be fair lol)

As an upgrade from SandyBridge-E it's borderline totally unessessary but I couldn't help myself. :boring: Does run a good 8c cooler though.

I've been through 2 mobo's now and never had this x79 build running for more than a week! Just awaiting the third..

Had a 3930k, but I've waited so goddamn long for EVGA to process this 'Step Up' I treated myself to the 4930k. When you get the upgrade itch, it needs scratching!

Yup, AMD announcing the X290 details tomorrow too. I'm set for this year though ta. Will have to see if we can jump on a BF4 server when it gets here

Thinking I am going to wait for Haswell-E due out next year. They say it is a 2011 chip, but they are bringing a new mobo chipset out. So curious if it is x79 compatible or if it requires the new board.

Whatever happens, I want some 8 core goodness! Can deal with what I have for another 12 months or so, it's not slow really doesn't need upgrading....It's just when you're a hardware geek you see shiny new parts and want them! Having to resist.

  Evo 5 RS
Haswell-E is going to be DDR4, it will be a completely different socket type too I think, not just chipset. I think it'll be at least June-July before that see's the light of day though. If not later. Think they may of even said Q4.

I think once DDR4 gets mainstream, I'll probably think about upgrading mine.

I love how we're talking about PC kit like this now and the XBone still has to make do with GDDR3. That 32MB of eSRAM has got to be one mutha of a piece of hardware - lol.

D.

Just dug out this bad boy from the loft. Think it'll blow up if I even show it the case for crysis. Just watched a film on it. Full screen on vlc. The fan was going nuts.

Just upgrading my system with 2 x Samsung 256GB SSDs, GF's system now has one of my Corsair 120GB SSDs in it and the second Corsair is going in my Microserver.

Proliant Microserver? The N40 version?

On a sidenote I need some new headphones for my PC...any recommendations?

Currently have some Triton AX720's that I use downstairs with my PS3 but cant be arsed to keep unplugging them all the time.

Oh and a new Keyboard too it seems as my other Logitech one appears to be duff (not surprised its years old and hasn't been used for over a year!)

840 pros? Or the new Evos? I've got 4 of the 840 Pros and they're awesome drives.

Headphones are one of those things you really need to try a few pairs. Tried loads before I found one that was comfortable, ended up with the Corsair Vengence 1500 not the best sounding. However they sound pretty good and are comfortable. With my house mate working daft shifts. I have to use them quite often so he can get some sleep.

Will the headphones be mainly used for gaming? If so I'd recommend the Steelseries Siberia V2's. Highly rated excellent gaming headphones, easily the best for the money IMO. £65 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-030-ST&groupid=702&catid=1058&subcat=1719

or the whites ones are currently on offer for just £50 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-021-ST&groupid=702&catid=1058&subcat=1719

I've used them for years, excellent sound quality and the comfort of them is market leading.

As for a keyboard what's your budget? Mechanical or membrane?

The N54L, but I do have an N40L and ML110 G7 also.

anyone able to recommend a decent rig that'll play battlefield 4 on max settings, thinking of making the move to pc. Budget no more than 1k

  Not a 320d
How do you find the chair then?

Its good enough. Not sure how long itll last. I sit in it 9 hours+ a day and its ok. If i continue to work for this company then i might invest in a chair thats £1000+ as ill be sat in it like a slob quite a lot.

Just gone and bought a 2nd GTX690 second hand.

Yes quad SLI doesn't scale well, but to hell with it. When running the resolution I do, it seems to offer some decent performance advantages. Around 44-50% which is what I would expect.

looking for a single pci-e graphics card what would people suggest current spec is

http://valid.canardpc.com/4hwlm2

considering both the nvidia 660ti and amd radeon hd 7870 but cannot work out if they take up a single or double pci-e so any help would be grateful

also what do people use to convert m4a(mp4) to a format which a normal dvd player can use

What is it being used for? If gaming then what games?

Personally I'd stretch to the 7950/70 if possible, I did the same and it was well worth the extra pennies. I play everything on ultra when on one screen and medium/high/ultra when using eyefinity depending on the game, with no issues.

7950 is an absolute bargain at the moment.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-049-HS

It's not the best manufacturer, or the best cooler, but for the price..

You could sell the 3 games it comes with if you wanted to, and you have a dirt cheap modern card!

I had the 7970 version of what Addicted has posted and it was an awesome card, very capable and a good overclocker, although now I have the His IceQ 7970 as it's a hell of a lot quieter.

With double PCI it's pretty much standard on all cards now. Very few come with single slot cooling now, only the low end stuff.

They don't actually "use" 2 slots mate, only plugs in to one slot and the rest of it overhangs the other
