All my bits minus a GPU have finally arrived :)
Will start getting things put together to try out at the weekend, should be fun as long as I don't break anything :)

Unusual memory size on these. 11GB?
Probably a business decision mate. If they had 12GB it would effectively offer a whopping 528GB/s of bandwidth and comfortably surpass the much more expensive Titan X Pascal. Hence it's slightly crippled at 11GB. It's a shame they didn't open up the full complement of 3840 CUDA cores (mind you, neither does the Titan X Pascal). I think only the Quadro P6000 offers the full 3840 cores at the moment and you could buy 7-8 1080 Ti cards for the price of one of those!

So after a bit of playing about I managed to get on top of my fans running fast most of the time. A bit of tweaking in Q-fan in the BIOS and stress testing resulted in temps not exceeding 68 degrees C. Not the coolest by any means but nicely low enough.

Dicking about with the Aquereo. Such an awesome tool

Need to get myself a new graphics card. Can't really justify spending £500+ on a GTX 1080 so I've been leaning towards the 1060 as it seems a happy medium between being fairly high performing and still relatively cheap, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

My current card is a Radeon HD 7850 so it wont be hard to get something better than that lol!

I run 2x 1080p monitors but have no plans to really be running games across more than one monitor, so massive memory isn't much of a requirement.

You'd probably be surprised. I have a reference 980Ti and it does quadHD (2560x1440) GTA 5 at about 100fps on max settings. So double the pixels again and turn down a couple of anti-aliasing settings and you'd probably get close to 50fps.

Going to pull the trigger on a Ryzen cpu soon, is the 1700X worth it over the 1700 do we think?
I don't play games but it will be running Unreal engine and various render programs, cad software etc.

Go with the 1060, I've always bought the **60 variants for our workstations and they are pretty decent.

A lot of reviews seem to suggest all 3 Ryzen 7 CPUs will run very similar clock speeds when overclocked. Since its also the cheapest for same performance, id opt for the 1700.

Can't remember if I'd read that the higher model chips achieve the same clocks with lower volts?

Put my 7700k system together, all works which is a good start . Playing about with it clocked to 5GHz, not had the chance to see if it's stable but it's been fine with everything I've done so far.

No GPU yet but installed CS Source as it was a small download (on 2meg adsl for 10 more days then finally have fttc) and it ran fine, although having not played for 10 years am a bit pap to say the least.

Need to get a proper keyboard though as my travel wireless one I've got is horrible to play games on.

Looks like I'm settled on getting myself a 1060. I've narrowed it down to an EVGA FTW or MSI Gaming X, but from what I can gather there's not much perforance difference in them at all so its probably just coming down to what one looks nicer!

Fancy an MSi Gaming 1070?

So the EVGA FTW3 1080 Ti is expected to ship on the 1st May. Tis a long old time away. Currently only orderable from the Eu EVGA website. Good thing with them is that payment isnt taken until the item is in stock so means no £800 hole in the bank account with nothing to show for it for a month.

Pre-order prices are also comparatively low so grab a pre-order before they go and prices go back up.

That not the one you sold?
No mate, that was the Z35 that Sharky has. It's a 2560x1080 VA panel, the x34 is a 3840x1440 IPS (100hz OC).

Was on the cards but was waiting for the prices to come down a bit. They were at £1200 at one point, which is mentalism.

Let me know when you're selling please buddy...

Two EVGA GTX 1080 Ti's pre-ordered :tongueout: ("Business needs") LOL!
Legend! Not sure when the Strix is arriving, may have to sell the TX and get another with that many pixels  (One is probably plenty in truth)

Ssssh, only one is for me. The other I'm buying for a fellow developer. But we'll keep that quiet #becausewannabeballer

I'd be more interested in utilising the CUDA cores for some serious GPU-accelerated rendering algorithms :) And for playing the odd game here and there of course... :p

Cuda and RT makes my life so much easier, used to be ages waiting for stuff to render on cpu's only to see it was wrong.

FFS Nvidia.

Hey, let's make a titan.
Hey, let's make a 1080ti that outperforms it a few months later.
Hey, let's then replace the titan with an even faster titan, which we will call the same name that everyone else calls the last one.

I swear they do this s**t on purpose.

  Evo 5 RS
They've grown bold lol. There's no need for them to launch this now...I might get one if I can get good enough money for my Titan and couple other bits.

  Evo 5 RS
Nah, well, if you'd bought one recently perhaps. I've had mine since August. Doing a little research you can look up the full core count, and the fact it was a cut back. They were always going to bring out the full fat one, was just a question of when.
