New fans have arrived and are fitted. Though I'm still having an issue that the CPU temp will momentarily blip up to 40-50 degrees causing the fans to spin up to noisy. Temps sit consistently at 30 degrees (The CPU is lightly overclocked) but blip occasionally up to those numbers.

Any suggestions? Could it be that I've not quite fitted the cooler plate properly to the CPU? I think I'm gonna remove the plate, clean off the thermal paste and re-apply to see if it makes any difference. All fans running at 50% is properly windy lol.

You need to run FanXpert, or use Q-Fan from UEFI to optimise the fan curve and spin up time. Depending on what you're doing at the time, those temps are fine when load is being placed momentarily

They're noisy because they're Corsair which are shite.

How did Amazon make it difficult? Just order another one and start a return on the one you have. They even come to your door to collect the old one ffs!

This is my 2nd ROG monitor, 1st one went mental within the first 10 days (streaks of green pixels across the screen on the left hand side of the monitor- stopped dead centre, guessing there are 2 connected panels that make up the whole thing).

Anyway, new one has been going strong for well over a year now so I think I just got a bad one before.

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is the best conventional TIM I've used. Also I delidded this 6850K but these idle temps ...

Its not the fans that are the issue now. I have a wee panel on the front of the case which shows CPU temp, fan speed etc and the fans kick up when the temp on the CPU "blips". This happens when the PC isn't doing anything but web browsing. The fans are silent however they do generate a fair waft of air.

The Acer monitor was collected this morning so apparently it could be up to a week before I see the replacement. I have looked at the ROG 27" monitors but as I prefer an IPS screen over a TN one the price is out of my acceptable range. The screen on the Acer Predator was awesome but for that dead pixel smack bang in the middle.

I managed to drop between 5-8 degrees across the board by removing the pre installed thermal paste on my h100i and putting my own on.

I've reserved a CPU cleaning kit plus coolermaster thermal paste so will tackle this job tomorrow.

Oh I get you. Funnily enough I had the same issue with my case setup, I made a custom solution that controls the case fan speed based on GPU temperature. So those little blips do nothing other than speed up the CPU fans (which are huge and absolutely silent until about 50% speed anyway). The others raise above idle when the GPU goes above 45 degrees and go to a maximum of 70% speed at 65 degrees on the GPU.

Using that SpeedFan application and Corsairs Link 4 I have a hold over the fans speeding up on the CPU temperature blips.

Will try and revert back to stock settings tomorrow once I've redone the CPU thermal paste.

So the Nvidia keynote at CES was last night. As far as I can tell there were no talk of the 1080Ti.

I know people, that's about it! :tongueout:. Unfortunately getting hold of NVIDIA card samples isn't one of the perks lol

I've got a Z270 ASUS Apex board coming, though

Some pics of my build. Won't be to everyone's tastes but I love it.

I've still to tidy the cables, hide them and make it all neat but once the monitor arrives this'll be done.

Looks awesome mate. Great choice of case, same as mine but I have black and I love it.

Watched the Accountant the other day and this girl has a really powerful PC, she goes to turn it on and here's the scene -

Is it just me that thinks it's s**t then?

I have it in black too. The plastic panel on the side creaks when the temperatures go up, and then again as they come down (I guess it's swelling and then contracting). No dust filters as standard, lots of plastic, 3.5" HDD trays at the bottom break very easily. etc etc etc.

Most things break wen you exert of force on them that its not designed to take. :tongueout:

I like the new 740 case but dealbreaker for me was lack of drive bays.

Nice one! Different - and that's the beauty of PC builds. Would be nice if the display on the front could lie flat, but that's only a minor thing.

So the replacement monitor is fault free (touches wood) and looking awesome. Also got myself a set of speakers (£30 Logitec PC ones that'll have to do until I have monies for a decent setup).

Now to get some games. Do any of you play Star Citizen? Looks pretty amazing but it's a few years old now.

So I downloaded Gears 4 last night onto the PC as I bought it digitally on Xbox.

Fired it up this morning (84GB download) and wow. Graphics are phenomenal. All settings on highest and getting a steady 60fps.

Had issues getting my Xbox One S controller to connect to the PC through Bluetooth. The PC can see the controller but refuses to pair so currently plugged in to use it.

You might need to download an app on the windows store for your controller so you can update it. I had to do that and it's been perfect since.

It's Xbox accessories or something like that, can't remember off the top of my head.

Anyone seen the amount of RGB s**t released at CES?

RGB water fittings.
RGB audio jacks.
RGB RAM.

Christ.
Yeah lol. Most interesting thing for me at CES so far is HDR displays and the ASUS Apex MB. I would say Ryzen too but I already know it doesn't overclock worth a damn

Upgraded my Gaming pc Graphics card and got rid of my horrible 1080p monitor for a much larger 1440p monitor.
Swapped these

Absolutely LOVING the Intel i7-6900K CPU - she's a beauty! I'm currently working on a complex Adobe After Effects video sequence that took 6.5 hours to render on my MacBook Pro. I decided to download the Windows version of Adobe After Effects instead and loaded the project into that... boom, down to just over an hour :)
