The sleepers appreciation thread

deans 106gti turbo, running around 450bhp at the fly, 390 at the wheels, still the original pug 1.6 lump too :)

The engine is a B18 which has a lot of variations but I imagine it will be a teg engine turbo'd....so maybe similar power to the lambo but soooo much lighter

apart from the intercooler it is, so what your saying is nothing with an intercooler is a sleeper, that is a 1000bhp per tonne 106 and your saying its not a sleeper. so when youre in your ferrari youd realy see it and think 'thats goin to be quicker than me'

But if you see a car with lashings of carbon fibre and chavvy morettes on the front you're hardly going to think it's standard.

But it's not a sleeper, no. If it was standard or looked a shade poverty spec then possibly but to me it screams track weapon.

1st one is a sleeper the 2nd is a big/fast engine in a car/van that you dont expect it in. Different things.


Which one 'Looks' faster?

I'd class it as a sleeper. Who would expect a 106 to have 450bhp?

But it looks modified and that's the point I'm putting across and the point that Joeh was trying to make although the fact the 106 looks modified it is bound to cause suspicion and totally redeem the whole idea behind a sleeper?

Exacly, people have got the idea the car has to look bog standard, and as for 'chavvy headlights' and 'lashings of carbon fibre', then the chavs must have got rich because i know that 106 has cost a lot of money and time to build and is certainly not chavvy, its a peugeot 106 with 450bhp, yet because it has different lights people will expect 450bhp yeah???

I have never mentioned the power if you read my posts.

Also, never said the carbon was cheap, however the morettes ARE chavvy, regardless.

Yeah it will cost alot to put 450bhp into a 106 but if you saw it at the lights/on the track/in the rear view mirror then you would know it's modified, not to the extent of big power but that it's definitely NOT standard. And the whole point of a sleeper is to skew the idea behind the car like the Escort in the above post.
 
no imho the idea of a sleeper is a car that is a lot quicker than it looks
morretes arent chavvy, angel eyes yes, morretes no

Highlighted the important bit, 106GTI's with 450bhp maybe very unexpected but a True sleeper is as above
 
Here is my project prilliams. Nothing amazing but it is fitted with an f7r and I hope to have steel wheels with trims in the future.

You hardly look at the thing and think its got 45 BHP do you? It's painfuly obvious its got some sort of performance to it with that huge FMIC and everything else.

If it was some rusty rat wagon, then yes it's a sleeper. Thats just a modified car and it's painfuly obvious.
 
Prilliams is a proper sleeper, a sleeper should look exactly as it came out the factory but with a silly engine imo

Dont really agree. Can see what your saying, but looking at it you'd expect it to have maybe 250bhp max? Maybe its just me!
