The (soon to be) daily cup.

Well guess I better get a thread going for this. I will update it as on when I have stuff to update with.

Here is my cup. Purchased for a bargain price, with a known bottom end fault. Woke the girlfriend up at 3am to make the journey to Lincoln. Got there, loaded it up onto the trailer and returned home.

Observations:
charging fault, worn aux belt, cracked rear disc, bodged gearbox, incorrect rear dog bone mount, numerous bolts missing.

A quote from my monaco's thread:
The aux belt is easily the worst I've ever seen, it's transparent in places, so if the bottom end hadnt let go, the belt Would've within 200 miles!

I shouldn't have tempted fate. Charging fault I diagnosed as the alt, so got one from spray shack. When it was delivered I had a new belt on order and was due with in the hour so thought I'd crack on with it. Started it up and went to move the Monaco out the way, as I was walking away I heard a rattle/clatter then it cut out. I thought the worst, so pushed it into the garage and got it on the ramp. And my fears were confirmed.

The aux belt that I knew was a risk let go, fraying and getting caught in the crank pulley and jumped the cambelt. All it had to do was last 30 seconds :(

Anyway. Plan is, lift the RS2'd motor from my Monaco, and transplant of into this. The Monaco will eventually get the 20vt engine once my gf has finished borrowing it.

I have also bought some xenons for it, just waiting for them to arrive.

Well I've secured a new bottom end, so just need to fit the head to it, drop it in the Monaco and hand it over. Although I have my eyes on a cheap 182 that I might give to Vikki instead.

Right... Update..

So today had a fairly slow day so wheeled the cup in and proceeded with removing the fucked engine and stripping it down. And tbh I'm a little fucked off with what I have found to be wrong. Summary of it is that it has been worked on by who can only be described as retards. A list of what I have found so far.

Gearbox is shagged due to the driveshaft being broken and dropping the needle bearings into it. The diff bearings have practically siezed up due to this.

And the grand finale...
They have broken the eyelet on the gearbox where the clutch cable bracket goes, to fix this, they have BOLTED through it into the bell housing. And because of this not getting it to be at the correct angle they have wedged a nut in there!!

All in all really pissed tbh. But it's only when you delve this deep into a car you discover such 'workmanship'.

All will be sorted within a few weeks. I have a new bottom end en route, I need to replace 4 inlet valves that have bent. Bolt the head on and we're away.

I haven't even looked at the derv since you left, wheeled it outside and parked it up. Obviously at that point didnt know I would be buying it lol.

You can pick it up after the rolling road day tomorrow if you like, I just need to work out where the hell it is, think I put it in the garage round my uncles.

Lol. You smooth operator.

Weekend after then mate. Though I'm only around on Saturday morning as I'm at the wizards of nos's 60 th birthday party from sat evening.

You should have said you were doing it tonight and instead of you driving to mine to fetch that release bearing you needed Lesley could have come and dropped it off you wally! She wouldn't have minded.

Sooo, a quick write up really.

Thursday afternoon at about 430pm it was announced to me that the gf had sold her car and it was going saturday. This then threw in the thought of "s**t. She needs the Monaco, and the cup is still in need of being built."
5pm:
Cup wheeled in, rebuild in anger commenced. 4 inlets lapped in record time. Head gasket and bolts arrived from a local supplier. Head bolted on, timed up. It was at this point I realised I hadn't kept the clutch release bearing, expecting to be putting on a new clutch in the rebuild. I then remembered chip had ordered one for his turbo and hadnt fitted it. A quick text to India, followed by a reply of "I'll get Lesley on it as soon as she's home from work" then about 20 minutes later saying she had it! Epic!

Went over to Taunton with my mate who was just being a general dogs body for the night. Collected the new release bearing and headed back. At this point it was about 930pm.

Cleaned the bay up, removed the loom and fitted the box, and then fitted the loom.
Engine ready to go in at about 1130pm:

Engine in and sat on the mounts before calling it a night at roughly 1am.

----------------

Today..

Pushed the cup back in to put in the last few hours.

Removed the passenger side shaft to replace the tripod, took the tripod off and sent Vikki over to Taunton, to chips to see if he had a spare I could have. Which he did! Perfect!

By the time she returned, I had it pretty much ready, just needed the box oil and front end refitting.

So moment of truth:

Started on the button. Excellent.

So refitted the shaft, box oil, new type D coolant and that was it done. Replaced the rear discs as they were knackered and took it out on road test:

And that's it done! All ready and roadworthy. Took it out to Weston this evening for Pizza Hut, other than needing 2x rear shocks and a new rear mount, it drives beautifully.

MASSIVE thanks to Chip-Mk1, Lesley and the GF for supplying parts at short notice as its helped Me out a deep hole!

Nice to see it up and running last night at the pizza hut meet, reckon you will have the 197 cams in it by next weekend so we can start on mapping it?

Well, it was detailed by Lesley yesterday, with some truely amazing results! She has the before and after pictures so I'm sure she'll be along soon. But I cannot thank her enough for her efforts!

A quick taster pic:

Well end of project.

Looked like this last night.

got collected by a c**t in a BMW who had a big ego. Cut a few of us up, lost it infront of me, off to the grass, I saw him get it straight so throttled on again, except he did the same and spun. Came across, hit the front of me and put me Into the barrier with him.

Didn't knot it was you! But saw the whole thing. Personally I'd be buying someone a replacement car if I did that to someone. Looked like a hard hit too.

  E46 M3 & UR Quattro
Gutted for you chap, nothing worse than being picked up by someone else's incompetence.

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
Gutted for you Dan... just read the Action Day thread. The guy in the BMW seems like a right c**t. Should've let your g/f loose on him! Glad you're both ok though. Tough end to a great project, great little car.. and what should have been a great day out for you both in it.

  Clio RS200 GW
BMW drivers all av big egos, very sad about the damage but always a danger on the track being taken out i suppose. Must be gutted

Well it was nice to have some company in my turbo on the way home from Combe but would have been nicer if it didn't happen like this:
