The story of my ZR **Warning - Rover Content** PIC HEAVY

TBH I got mine as I needed to trade my TF160 for someting less powerful, but something that was cheap and looked okay (only paid £50 trade in against my TF lol)... I don't thrash it about cuss its only a 1.4 - would much rather save on liquid gold the best way I can atm.

There okay cars imho, but get alot of stick with the Head Gasket Failures... As long as people check them check regularly for signs of HGF, then there generally fine. The only thing I have done on mine is add the small Trophy decal on the bumper as its classed as a "Trophy Edition" lol (god knows why pmsl!) and a theMGZR.co.uk site sticker on the rear side window. Less is definitely more imho.

What series you running in?

Just a club base Championship at Castle Combe, it's a customers car :)

Jenvey ITB's and Emerald management and it's making 160bhp odd iirc (might be a couple more engine mods I can't remember), one of the guys has 180 odd from his :)

That's pretty mild for ITBs actually. There's a couple on the forum pushing over 190bhp NASP, bloody expensive engines though. Looks like a good series though, a fairly mixed field?

He wanted a reliable car more than fast one so stuck with the 160 altough he gives the 180 one a good run. He's running saxo gearbox internalls to help the gearing on it.

There's the two 1400cc's and then there's 6 or 7 1600cc - 1800cc cars out there too so lots of MG's, they've superceeded the Saxo/106 generation as there's a maximum 10 year since last manufacture rule in the championship.

Yep 1.4, I think it was a Rover to begin with too (well they all were I guess lol) I'm not sure how the gearbox was compiled from my understanding its the Rover/MG box with the Saxo GTi internals in it.

There's 3 different boxes on them. The PG1, the R65 (which is a peugeot box) and the IB5 (ford box, used on Escort RS Turbos). The R65 is probably the worst box of the bunch for giving up the ghost.
 
Latest Purchase. I originally ordered an Apiro Diavalo, but due to stock issues I was offered this instead. It's a BMC DIA 85-150 from Regals Motorsport. Can't wait to get it on, just waiting on some flexible air ducting as I hate the metal crap it came with, and a trumpet. Got to find a way to get ducting that big through to the air, which is going to be interesting. Going to get this on before the RR day at RS Tuning on the 7th November.

Well yesterday I got bored and fitted it minus the CAF. Sod's law after doing that the CAF stuff came through the post!

It's staying like this ATM, as there doesn't seem to be much room to mount/route a CAF. So when I get a chance I'm going to get the front bumper off and have a good look at routing possibilities.
It's a very tight fit, just touches the bonnet lining when the bonnet is closed, and the reducer had to be superglued in place as it kept falling off. Sounds great, don't know if it's made any difference to the power though, can't really "feel" any difference. I dare say with the CAF sorted it will pull harder.

As said by someone else...T16 conversion would be full of win!! ;)

It would but I'm not going to spend that money as I've already said a few times now. Going fast in a straight line isn't really my thing, and the T Series doesn't aid in going round corners. :)

Aye, handling would need some tweaking afterwards.

Not a very costly transplant though!
 
I'd like to pick some of your brains for ideas guys. Been looking to route the CAF but I'm at a loss.

Now normally, people have taken a feed from the existing airbox feed, or have routed through besides the radiator. However, these have all appeared to be smaller feeds than what I have in mind. I need to find a route for some 80mm ID Tubing (so we'll say 90mm for a bit of space around it).

Haven't bothered taking the bumper off yet as I still won't get it anywhere near the induction kit lol.

This shows the Induction Kit (IK) as it is sat in the bay. Quite close to the slam panel & really nowhere to go due to the battery & cooling pipework.

This shows the space between the IK and the slam panel. It's almost impossible to get my CAF tubing to form a tight enough bend in that gap, and even if it did, there's no space downwards for it due to the rad pipework & wiring, no space to the passenger wing due to the battery & headlight wiring.

This is to try and show there's not really much room behind the bumper either could I get it through to it!

My one thought is to possibly get a lightweight battery and position that inside the car. Then sling the OEM induction pipework between the IK and the Throttle body for a 45degree bend. This should point the airbox into the space where the battery was. I could then chop up/remove the battery tray and the OEM airbox airfeed. From there I imagine it's possible to get through to the passenger side foglight?

Any other suggestions?

Get a smaller battery and leave it where the original is but keep it on the left of the battery tray, then get a 45 degree samco and route the IK the other side of the battery, behind the light, Run a feed from the arch upto it. Done.
 
Another RR Day, this time at RS Tuning in Leeds, which is known for reasonably accurate results compared to last time.

Happy with those figures, 136.9bhp and 130lbft torque ATF. Just need to sort my CAF out now lol.

Top work mate..my old boy had a red ZR as a company car a few years back, was the 1.8, 160 brake or whatever it was, had the bigger wheels etc..went rather well.
