The Truth about The Williams

I should be a detective. Ok lots of phone calls later and i now have the definitive story of Williams 0001 and why stories of it being written off occured (this comes from someone who was in marketing at Renault during the production of the Williams models).

The Williams prototype WAS written off on film. It was not 0001, but had a prototype model number. The film is available and i am currently trying to obtain it.

Williams 0001 is left hand drive and was presented to Frank Williams in 1993. It is full spec left hand drive.

Number 0003 is possibly owned by Bernard Dudot, who is a big man at Renault in France. He definately had a low number, and 0003 is the most likely. Not sure if it was right hand drive.

Number 0004 was owned by a Renault dealer in Liverpool. I have his name and will try to contact him.

My contact is also said it was possble to locate 0005.

Whos the Daddy?

No you wernt right, he never said that.

Mine was owned by Renault UK for 3 years as a show piece. It was registered in 1997 with 800 miles on the clock. The guy who bought it owned a Renault garage and he ran it to 17,000 miles, and thats when i bought it this year.

hope you don;t mind me asking, but how much do you pay for a peice of renault history? - if you don;t want to say, dont worry but was it considerable?

Well it looks like from reports that their were 2 willy 0001s, one written off which was a prototype 0001 and the LHD 0001

The prototype didnt have a chassis number. It wasnt 0001. It just had a prototype number. And it wasnt off the production line, so to speak, so wasnt chassis number 0001.
