the whole RS clio experience?

  Ford Fiesta
what made you buy a clio sport, 172/182, V6 etc,

did this site go some way to making you get one?
I mean there seems to be more of a whole enthusiast base on these cars than many other types of car? right across the world, particularly GB and France. Would you agree?

Then there are the track days that Renault organise, even Renault at Donnington in September they all build an image of the cars imo.

But this site definitely went into the decision making process when I decided to buy my two clios.

  Black 182 w/ cup packs
Had 3 different 1.4 8v RT clios since they came out '91 (2 x mk1 and a mk2) and decided it was time to have some fun before the mk3 came out. Economic to run/decent sized boot, Getting a bit older + having a bit more cash also helped! Found the official renaultsport forum which helped my decision, didn't discover this site until later but it definitely has heaps more useful info/postings etc on it. On saying that I began to read about more common problems on 182 after I ordered the car which began to put me off....!

it was up for 10.5k brand new so i thought i wud have some of that! i knew about them but i wouldnt of said i was an enthusiast then, different now tho....bloody love the cup!!

  MK2 FRS
site made me want a 172. when i had a 1.2 16v. Missed the forum/club when I wasnt an RS owner for a brief period of time and helped me return.

One of the major reasons why I considered the 182 was because I liked the look of them and it was one of the best cars in terms of performance that I could afford, I considered the 182 along with the Pug GTi 180 (I considered a S3 but ruled it out as it was a bit expensive and I would have paid the same as the 182 for one with 40,000 miles on it). I never actually test drove the 180 becuase after reading the magazine reviews and having the test drive of the 182 I knew it was the right car for me, the 182 has soo much character and never fails to put a smile on my face.

I do believe this site influenced me to buy the 182 as there was so much information on hand and always someone able to answer any questions, No other site offered such infoirmation on the 180 or S3 and without a shadow of doubt this is the best car forum on the net!!

Short story:

Had 1.2 16V and liked it a lot. Quite nippy car for a single. Wanted some va-va-voom. Read everything in the net (cliosport included). Ordered one. Enjoying one.

I bought one as it was the best spec'd, most fun car I could afford. I'd test driven a 182, Type-R, Cooper S, Golf TDI (mk4 150bhp) and Seat Leon FR TDi, but the clio just left a lasting impression on me. Paid £8500 for my 53 reg 172 (pick it up two weeks today!),and to get a Civic (my second choice) at the same age with the same spec and mileage would have set me back at least £12k. Also, going to Donnington in Sept to watch the clio cup may have had a small part in it :D

  Golf R/Leon FR
ive had 3 three cars since i started driving and they have all been clio's, started with a H reg 5 door 1.2rn that got wrote off by an old lady not using her brakes and decided to use my car instead! Then i bought a x reg 1.2 mtv. I got bored of having to plan overtaking manouvers half an hour in advance and sick of its slowness tbh, so i got a mk1 172 and for the price its the fastest car i could get!!!

  106 GTi
I had grown up with Pug hot hatches, (205, 309, 306) and had come to the time I fancied a change, the latest offerings from Pug rally didnt do it for my 307 Xsi and the dire 206 180. After test driving a few modern day hatches of various Marques (CTR, Golf, etc), I booked a test drive in the 182 this time last year, after I got back grinning like a chesire cat, I HAD to have one. Just like my old 205 GTi but modern and much quicker. Had everything I wanted, handling, power, spec etc. Plus a brand new one could be picked up for a good price IMO.

For the money I dont think there are any hatches that come close. I love my modern day 205!

The fact there was a good owners club was important and a good benifit as I had been in the Pug owners club for the 7 years.

  Saphire Cosworth
I absolutely hated french cars with a passion, loved my fords (Still do!!) was running a 350 bhp cossie (proper 350!!) and had to get a cheap to run car so i bought a clio. I hate to say it but i actually remotely enjoy driving it !! At least i can loose a scooby in it !! And it's a bit newer than my 15 year old saph !! Ah it'll do till i break it !!

  Clio v6
At the time I had a VTS and yearned for something quick so I went for the MK 1 172, and that was the best move. It offered everything I hoped it would.

A year or so later I fancied something totally different so I bought a V6 230 (the proper one).

Still loving the Vee experience, I moved on to the Vee MK2 (the fancy modern one).

Totally stuck should I fancy another change though, but lucky I don't see myself becoming bored for quite some time to come.

  Elise/VX220/R26
at the time I bought mine it purely because it was the fastest catr you could get for the money which seems to be renaults speciality

  Megane Mk4
I bought our original mk1 172 in halifax, always wanted to own one since the day I went to the top gear tv show as an audience participant
( I was one of the lucky ones to watch them review it too!! ;) ) lol

But I'm glad I bought it, stunning motor it was and still the best looking Renault Sport 2 litre clio about imo. but when the 182 came out I wanted one of them too.. I was expecting the Deeper shade of blue.
I was kinda shocked when I got the racing blue colour.. thought the dealer was taking the p*** and brought out the wrong car! lol

Glad now though that it is racing blue and not the other, I wouldn't dream of parting with it now.. unless the money at the time was right! :D
I wont be getting rid too quickly though, not overly keen on the new shape mk3 (although I'll never say never) ;)
I didnt get any hints or ideas off the clio sport website.. I didnt know it even existed 4 years ago, but Its influenced me now enough to respect it more and I'm sure it'll make me respect them for a lot longer to come :D
