Things related to MPG (Lambda's aside)

Right been through this one already but the problem still persists.

Latley ive been getting mixed readings from 12mpg to 27mpg and everything in between, under the advice of K-Tec i had my 182 booked into my local exhaust specialist to have the lambda sensors swapped over to see if there was any difference in MPG - there has not been, its just the same or worse.

Now, before i spend £100+ on two Lambda sensors, is there anything else i should check before i carry on spending £15 on fuel every two days, its seriously testing my patience? :(

I have a feeling that its going to be the two lambda sensors but want to be absolutley certain thats what it is!

Again, regards!

why 2?

the second one just controls the emisson lights (says if the CAT is doing its job basically)

the first one affects fueling so that is the one that would need changing

tried anything like coolant temp sensor or thermostat? running at correct temp etc

But if it was only the first one that was broken, then switching them would solve the problem? Unless by some horrible coincidence they were both broken....

I have the same problem, but my emissions light is on as well as very low mpg.
Would this have to be both lambda's?

I replaced both lambda's and my MPG is still shocking, im using £10 a day now. Cars going in again on Tuesday to try and find the fault, took it to the garage today and as soon as I said about the problem they pointed out 4 other clio's dotted around all with the same thing :rasp:

Where is the coolant temp sensor located? The car's operating temperature is sweet as a nut, there is no adverse affect other than its appetite for fuel :(

it'll only be the first one you'll need to change.

I could just change one but with the luck im having of late it'll need two as like i say swapping them over has made no noticeable difference?

My emissions light was also on but a fellow member brought along his RS tuner and turned it off but obviously the problem persisted?

Thanks for the replies guys! :)

temp sensor is located in the thermostat housing, screws into the side.

i think you'll have to remove the airbox to gain access to it.

black plug with 2 or 3 pins, can't remember which now.

Another thing, the exhaust emissions warning light has popped on again (After the switch of the Lambda's) Still worth changing the Temp Sensor? Thanks again pal!

GSF, dont sell the temp/coolant sensors anymore but ECP are stocking them for £13

Also, Lambda sensors are £44 at the moment

Just give them that part number i posted earlier on in the thread or pm me and I'll get one sorted out for you.

Which branch was this?

Had mine on the clip today and its found no problems, just like the other 4 clios at the garage all with the same description of the problem.

Luckily for me they have left their cars there so the garage is looking over all of them and trying to find possible problems, said for me to pop back next week as they might have a better idea of whats happening.

Im thinking it might be the CAT, car failed on emissions a few times and had a new CAT bought for it within waranty by the dealer, but then 2 days later when going in for aother thing to be fixed he said that the garage told him the original CAT was fine and it didnt need a new one. Thought nothing of it at the time as ive bought 2 cars from this guy and he is genuine, but possibly now the CAT is knackerd?

This is going to sound like I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about but my mate with a 1.2 extreme mk2 ph2 was spending loads of fuel... Took it to countless garages and even the stealers and when he got down to the problem it was a wire that had been chaffing on the engine bay fusebox cover and had split, he's not a car nut so didn't have the foggiest where or what the wire did but try that if it helps, it helped him.

bloody numpties.

if they don't stock it, they can order it from a hub.

it's the same temp sensor that does the 16v mk2 clio's.

The downstream one is the one infront of the cat (not the one plugged into the cat)

John - the Lambda was £66 from GSF, a sore one but by far and away the cheapest option, Renault wanted £118 for one and ECP £88
