Think My Clutch is Slipping

  The Jinx

It doesnt happen all the time, nor does it hapen in 1st or 2nd. But when flooring it at 2000rpm the revs surge to 3000rpm and then fall back a little.

Is this clutch slip?

With clutch slip the rpm will increase rapidly with no increase in speed. The car will slowly speed up and the rpm/speed will match, accompanied with the scent of crisp clutch.

Usually the rpm will continue to increase though, try it in top gear.

I dont think it is the clutch now then. It has only done 26500 miles, and I dont ride the clutch.

Any ideas anyone? Could it be a turbo problem, as that kicks in at 2000rpm

If it is clutch what chance do I have of getting it done under warranty, given that its only done c27k? Surely thats premature failure?

Its definitely not clutch. Hmmm. Interesting.

Any ideas? Could it be that there might be some fluid leaking from somewhere on to the clutch plates? Anybody know whether theres anything that could leak in the area of the clutch on these DCIs?

Renault will say they will have a look and see if its been abused or if its down to a fault.

They will be able to tell if its been abused by blue areas which denotes that it has got extremely hot. They can only do this by stripping it out and checking by which time youll be paying all the labour charges if its not a fault.

You dont have to ride a clutch for it to wear prematurely, it can happen by accelerating hard all the time, and snatching gear changes.

It could be oil on the clutch plate or something like that. Or something unrelated like a sensor?

Best bet is , as suggested above, put it in 5th at 30mph and depress the throttle fully, see if the revs rise out of sync with the change in speed. This puts your clutch under a lot of pressure and will definately tell you if its slipping or not.

My clutch went at approx 16K on my Cup, I moaned like hell at my dealer when they said it was abuse......I went on about how Renault must have used crap materials etc....and they eventually put it through on warranty...which was a good thing as they wanted £500 to replace it!!!!!!!!!!
( I did nail the hell out of it and it was my fault) (never once smelt clutch though.)

Cheers bud. Did the 5th gear thing and it definitely wasnt slipping. Guy on evo that works with diesel engines reckons its the rear end seal.

Its booked in at a small garage for them to have a look. Im not taking it to any robbing bastid Manchester Renault dealers, as I dont trust a single one of them, having experienced them all. This garage has done work for us before.

I dont think they can invalidate your warranty anymore anyway, as a result of the scrapping of block exemption rules. Its only dealer warrantys that they can stiff you on.
