thinking of a new pc

im thinking i will get a new pc when the car has been sold but im unsure what to go for again :(

i think id much rather go for an amd chip but i see they are changing the packaging of the cpu to m2 or something so i was kinda figuring for upgradeabilitys sake would it be wiser till those cpu's are out in the wild ??

or should i just say sod it lol

whats a good compromise these days for a machine id want it to not miss a beat when playing games etc also be a good at encoding etc

so guys motherboard, cpu, ram nothing much else to think about really i dont suppose.

How much you wanting to spend?

And the newer AMD slot wont be anything faster really when it first comes out just adding ddr2 memory which isnt gonna make that much of a difference.

It will be more futureproof but i dont think it'll really make much difference.

Theres never really an ideal time to build a computer as theres always newer things coming out. But with a newer slot type id say skip it for the 1st generation of things at least let them work out the bugs.

Id say go dual core myself its getting adopted rather quickly. Most of the next games coming out all support it. And he want to do some encoding the dual core would be the best option for encoding things.

i was swinging towards dual core

clart was talking to griff about 144 opteron but he said dont bother unless you know alot about overclocking

budget is really what ever it takes

i was looking at a shuttle sff to keep costs and size down was looking at the sn25 or sn26 the 26 does sli

I would go with a 7800GT or GTX if you can stretch to it. £250 - £450 depending on specs of individual cars.

4400+ or higher depending on budget but the 4400+ is the best in terms of price to performance. Around £350 - £700

2gb of ram as its starting to get needed now preferable good stuff around £200 for that.

If you buy a shuttle your mobo is already in it. Otherwise if your buying a standard case id go with a DFI lanparty SLI DR motherboard. decent mobo would be around £130.

Probably need a decent power supply too so another £70 for that.

Shuttles are good but for a high end system i dont rate them that well.
