thinking of buying a 172 help please :)im new

  Clio 172
he said his a mecanic and has changed the cambelt/aux belt and rebuilt head him self, is there any way i can see the cambelt from bay to see if it looks new?

  Megane 225 F1
TBH Unless he has proof that he used genuine renault tools for the cambelt, I would stay clear. If you could look at a cambelt and tell if it was new, I would still be worried that the timing was out.

Or you could chip him down on the price and have the belt done yourself?

I would view it and take it from there, providing its not too far away that is. Dont part with any cash before viewing though!

I am also looking for a 172 at the moment and from what i have read the belts can be done for around £400 dependant on if you have air con etc

Cambelt kit and auxillary kit fitted will set you back about £600-700 depending on where you go so tbh I would offer him £2300 max to cover your costs and any other bits that may need to be done. No service history for 24k miles is 2x 12k services missing but if he has done them his self then he should have reciepts for parts etc he used.

Do they have the correct timing tools etc to do the job?

That is a lot of figures set out in an awkward way lol

£470 appears to be the price you would pay including service and genuine parts and I would assume that is the aux kit and not just the belt as it states inc tensioners but like I say it's hard to follow....

If he doesnt have the correct renalt only tools, which assume he hasnt, then take it to a specialist
