Thinking of buying a clio....

So, as the title, im thinking of buying a 172/182 cup.

At the moment i have got a 1.6 corsa sport, and im just getting tired of the lack of power, and having lowered it, the lack of practicality as it wont get over many speedbumps etc!

So, im after something fast, and practical, which is why im looking at these! I have heard the bad things about them, but im sure if i was to buy off someone on here etc, they can be reliable?

As im after something practical, i need to be able to stick 2 bikes in the back (with the seats folded down). Is this possible in one of these? I have never really seen one up close, so have never paid much attention to boot size etc, my corsa can fit 2 bikes in.
And also, how low do these sit? Getting over speed bumps etc will be ok right?

Can fit 2 bikes in the back no probs if you take the wheels/seats off the bike, i do quite often.

Reliabilty shouldnt be a problem as long as it's been serviced at the right intervals etc.. Boot space isn't the greatest imo. As for getting over speed bumps etc, I see no problem unless it's been slammed to the floor. Mine 172 is lowered with no issues whatsoever Also will be a damn sight quicker than a 1600cc corsa

If your prepared to maintain it properly it should be reliable. Its worth noting that belt changes etc on the 1*2's are expensive and cannot be neglected.

i got myself a 172 the other day. i find it a nice little car coming from a sti. i think the build quality isnt the best on the interior though. but then again it is the cup (lightweight) version so i dont really give a s**t :evil: apart from that, yes its very good. power is very good and responsive, handling is great and comfy. i cant comment on the reliability obviously . bottom line im really pleased with the new motor

I think the boot space is decent for the overall size of the car. If you can't fit the bikes in the boot, there's a couple of people who have fitted roof bars.

I am new to the Clio, like you, I was looking for something with decent power that was practical and wouldn't need much attention other than regular servicing and the odd bit of maintence. I think I have found what I was looking for in the Clio

Belts have been noted, I looked at a few 172's and everywhere (I was looking in garages) said they would do the belts in with the price of the car. As far as I know (I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong), there is no 172 that should not have had the belt replaced by now (or is it by the end of this month, anyway, belts on all 172's should have been done).

realisticly how many times do you change the belt.

what once a year on service??????

surely unless you absoloutly thrash it then you shouldnt have to replace belt every 2 years or so?

every 3-4 years or 60k miles is the recomended, also advised to take it to people who have the propper renault tools

Renault say every 5 years or 72000miles, which ever comes first.

I know it vary's, but how much would i be looking at for a cambelt change?

I have heard of the exhaust falling off problem aswell, how much of a problem is it? Did it happen to many cars?
