Thinking of buying this

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
And do you think it's bad for a car with 80000 miles?
Price will be around £2500

Bert and Maurice. Sound like a couple of ok lads. Ca'nt see them knocking out a turbo conversion for less than half of what K Tec charge. They're right about one thing. Forced induction is probably the best way forward.

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
It's in ccoperation with Fastchip, who wrote the turboconversion software for Ktec (I heard) and another one

  Clio 172 Cup
i want to know hat the 2500 pound buys you as you cold probably DIY it
for about 1500 me thinks

excluding ecu to run it

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
They say it's plug and play. Nothing in the engine will be changed. It's low boost and not a huge gain of hp. So will be perfect I suppose. The 2500 is not fitted price

  Clio 172 Cup
well yes i take it that you fit it yourself and go

but what parts need replacing external to the engine ie injectors fuel rail
fuel pump and so on.

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
I did a little research and I really think this 0.5 bar kit will do the job.
I found a similar turboconversion for the Toyota MR and Lotus Elise with the same engine. It's also a kit with 0.5 bar pressure and without any further modification in the engine. Many many of those turbo's were sold and driven for thousends of miles without any problems due to the low pressure. And for +- 3100£. Really thinking of doing this on my Clio and Elise

I'll be interested to hear how it drives.

i think i have found a

turbo for about £650
exhaust pipe work for about £500
Intercooler for £350
boost sensor £80

still need to find ecu though may do my own diy jobbie

The gearbox casing is shot peened to make it stronger, the thin aluminum casing is the weakest part of the box.

ok, good to know.
now, let's go with it further, if I already have around 200+ BHP (inlet, exhaust and camshafts), is it dangerous to install this kit? or will it be more effective?

cheers,
Elad.

I mailed them and they claim the JC5 box can handle the power. Think it's possible because of the low pressure

  Audi TT 225
box will take it imo, clutch probably wont last too long tho so consider a group n or paddle clutch when it goes

  Clio 172 Cup
i think when the clutch goes its best to pull out engine replace rods pistons clutch flywheel cams the works then crank up the boost.

  Audi TT 225
lol you talk about it like its lego.... do you know the costs involved in dropping the engine out, rebuilding the bottom end which has to be done by a specialist? cams aren't too bad to fit but aren't needed on a turbo engine since the stock set can push over 300bhp with the right boost.
Theres a 315bhp 182 kicking around.
But regardless what we're saying is if you got that much bhp out of it then your likely to be chewing gearboxes every month...
Due to the extra power from the low boost conversion an uprated clutch will last longer than a stock one.

At the end of the day the engine can produce a LOT of power... but the box cant take it... which is why they changed it in the 197.

Exhaust manifold?

Piping?

You could if you know what your doing do it cheaper but why hastle yourself.

Your cars got a better breathing with the cams etc so the thing is you'll not make much more power as you'll be detting all the time on stock CR realy so not much more power that just stockturbo would have got toy. You'd have to have the ECU mapped though to make it run anyway.

Nope stock box is warently limited to 200NM which the 172/182 runb as standard the box won't live its already at its limits being gentle it will live for a long time but thats not warently relibalility as such.

  RS RIP
Aslo read about the 200NM which the box is made to be able to handle..

So it's going to be dodgy... skip first gear with throttle and take it real easy putting the pedal down on the rest of the gears and it should hold out ?

reading this it sound a bit stupid... can't expect anyone to take it esay on throttle with this conversion.

So, box is not going to handle the power. What about all the other High power clios on here ? I'm thinking they run a standard box ?

  Lionel Richie
well we charge £350 just to rebuild the box, taking it out and putting it back in, plus a new clutch (£300) its not cheap!

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
And you're sure the box can't handle the power? MB guaranteed it could handle the power with only 0.5bar, but I know you have the experience, so I believe you.

I had just had a rebuilt one from renault, ironically it broke after less than 1k!

My cars done done 64k and technically on it's 4th box lol.

  Lionel Richie
no it can handle the power, but thats only without doing standing starts/not rushing the changes

we use the box a hell of a lot to slow the car down, so it gets a lot of abuse, we've never blown one up, just broken synchos and internal selectors etc

the only time i've seen exploded boxes if from stading starts/rushed changes

  RS RIP
hm... gets you thinking eh Jess ?

Fred, what about the clutch ? or is this as sensitive as all of the other parts in the box ? (synchro etc.)

btw I never use the box to slow down, cause never on track:) .. rather use/abuse the brakes because these are easier + cheaper to change

I'm really thinking of buying this, but only thing that can stop me is the gearbox and engine (both 70 k miles)
