Thinking of changing drum to disc

  1.6 16v clio priv
I have been recently thinking of changing my rear drum brakes to disc brakes.

What is involved in this. Has anyone done it before. Does it make a much difference?

No point drums are IMo better cheaper to fix new drums with bearing and drums are £100 vs £165 for disk which need doing twice as often.

Only 4 bolt hold the axle on them you've got to fit the brake lines and handbrake cable. Say 1.5hours to do. Depen how fast you work no point though IMO.

right so basically after remove drum.
Fit disc. Swaps straight for drum?
fit caliper
fit brake cable
fit brake line.

all 172's etc. have rear discs, and selected 1.6 16v's had rear discs.

look wise i really wouldnt bother, and they dont add anything to the stopping power of the vehicle.

you'll need the entire new rear axle which matt black was selling for £250 + vat i think.

edde i take it the 1.5 hours was with the benefit of a ramp?

might see if I can find a scrapper.

Will the axel from a renaultsport or a 1.6 be a straight swap

pretty much yeah. just need new brake lines iirc. so swap to braided while your at it.

Why do you want to do this?

firstly for the looks.
Secondly for the extra stopping power, which as mido has pointed out will not be great.

I'd spend your money elsewhere mate if it was me.

They don't stop you any quicker as you now know and it's a lot of money just because it might look a bit better. At the end of the day they are only discs and no one really looks at them.

Spend your money on putting a 172 front bumper and wings on or something.

anyone got any photos of a clio with discs. Thin k some sports have discs
Some 1.6 16V have it also the dci 100 and some 80 from memory. All 172/182s have them.

Yep your right its the whole rear axle you need to swop.

Nope whole rear axle drop off with the 4 bolts then lift new one up and bolt on.

Depends how good you are but a ramp would help but there no need.

Yep 1.6 is the same fitment.

Drums are better for stopping only advantage is for looks. People who buy 172/182 would deman them as there the thng a faster car has no point realy. Even track days on drums are fine.

Waste your money on somthing like performance pads and discs up front.
pointless on wasting money to change from drums to discs to do very little apart from looks bud.
