thinking of changing the 182

  Laguna sport tourer
was thinking of trading my 182 with cup packs in for something cheaper, i was thinking about a 172 cup can anyone tell me what they are like (handling braking etc)compared to the 182 as ive never driven one
any advise would be grately appreciated:D

I own a 172 cup and ive driven my mates 182 quite a few times, imo they feel quicker, better throttle response and seems to rev more freely, as for handling there amazing :D however my mates 182 was great at handling to, as for braking the normal brakes are not to bad at all, but put a decent set of discs and pads on and there even better, you wont regret going from a 182 to a cup

This to all intents and purposes is b0llocks.

The only way one Clios quicker than another is driver ability. The brakes are the same across the range, 280mm at the front and 238mm at the back

This, your hardly going to save lots by trading them anyway.
tbh i am nearly at the point where i can give back the 182 (which was over priced from a main dealer) and thought i might be able to pick up a 172 cup for 3-4k?

will a 172 cup handle better than my 182 then? as i was a bit disappointed with the handling of mine, especially with all the hype about the 'famed handling'

Whats wrong with the handling?

Imo your really splitting hairs. A 3k Cup will be a bag of w**k imo, possibly needing belts, service etc. I chopped in my 197 to a Cup and pocketed 5k, you'll pocket 2 if your lucky. Not worth it imo

yeah there is the belt side of it to think about as mine had them done a few months back bt the boys at k tec, mine just seems to have a lot of body roll, ive got an diesel escort and there aint much differance handling wise between them

Best option is do it and decide for yourself.

What would you have done before internet forums were around?

The only difference is that the throttle feels slightly stiffer. Still drive the same, not even worth the effort.
Nonsense. The response is quicker. And the difference is easy to appreciate on full throttle.

Not going to save a huge amount, and you have to factor in the service aspects (belts, clutch, mounts etc). Make sure any car you're thinking of has had them done, otherwise long term you'll save nowt.

Very slightly, nothing worth writing home about imo.
Fella, maybe your's is stiff (cable/spring etc). But if you drive a good un back to back with a ph2 car, the difference is immediately noticeable.

I could feel the difference when I got the ph1 from my 182 but it was hardly like you put your foot down in the 182 and had to wait 2 seconds for the car to react.
True mine could be gunked up, I don't think it is though I made my TB sparkle !

Don't get me wrong they feel better but not to the magnitude that I would choose one car over the other because of it.

Can't argue with that. Cleaned my old one to within an inch of it's life, still sticky:(. Luckily found a new one very cheap.

They could still be tired even if they aren't leaking.
this may seem like a dumb question but how do i know there ko if there not leaking(pushing down on the bonnet doesn't work as the springs don't give much) i don't wanna spend more money on it if its gonna be a waste of time.

Probably the cable if the Tb is scrubbed fella, you had a look at Robbos thread ? he's having similar issues I think.

Drive someone else's and compare.

Massive plus 1.
Seriously your escort handles the same? How long have you owned the 182?
my escort had pe2's on it when i got it,the previous owner must of been disillusioned or something.
ive had it over a year now it seemed good when i got it, i guess when things gradually get worse you tend not to notice them, also i've had that many things go wrong with it recently it gets you down and eventually you stop appreciating the car.

Sounds to me like it needs a good service new shocks all round then a blast out to make you like it again.

I might be getting one on saturday but you're a fair way away haha.
