Thinking of Chopping the ST

  VW Caddy Van
As per title seriously swaying back towards another 182

I loved that car in the short time i had it and got it looking how i wanted just by dropping it 40mm. I've found an 04 plate with 18k for a good price. If i can get the garage to do the belts and throw in a 2 year warranty for the price they're wanting then i may be seriously tempted to get rid of the ST for it. Reason i want the warranty etc is for £500 more i could get a 55 plate with same mileage but it's further away

Only things keeping me to the ST is 6 months tax is £97.75 where as it's £115.50 for the Clio

I really dunno wat to do whether to repeat myself or not. I went from a 2007 56 Fiesta 1.4 that i straight swapped for my old 182. Went from 21k to 42k miles and back to an 04 from a car i bought brand new!

The ST has just under 13,300 on it and is a 2008 57 plate. But it's had to have a new steering rack will be due 4 tyres fairly soon and the tax is up in July too. Then theirs the rattling from it and it feels like it's holding back and other days it's fine. Something pointed out by my mate who's a BMW tech and fellow ST owner when he drove it the other day

I know the general concensous on here will obviously be get the 182 but am in a predicament lol. Plus i'd be moving onto a 4th car since August if i did get rid

Could you get a 197 ?

I test drove both a 197 and a ST this morning and I reckon you would be completely happy with a 197 :D

  Titanium 182
Shame I haven't driven a 1*2 so can't comment on them compared to the ST but the 197 deffs get's my vote any day of the week :D

182 is a phenomonal car compared to the ST. I loved my 182 if the gearbox hadn't went i'd still have it now! I regret not getting it sorted tbh

If your thinking about changing then go for it, it sounds like your not enjoying the ST as much as you hoped you would.

I love my ST tho always wanted one but wanted a 182 longer than i did an ST lol. Drove several ST's onto my 3rd Fiesta in total. Hated the driving position of the 182 and feeling cramped but when i added my BMC to the 182 and put my foot down it made it all worthwhile

ive done exactly what you want to do fella......

traded in my st for a ly 197 - due to pick it up this week.

the st has too much of a boy racer image if you ask me.

  V6 Exige, GTR R35
just the usual f1 spec, recaros, etc

not sure if it has xenons or not

20k on the clock, 07 plate. paid 4k plus the st for it

  VW Caddy Van
Don't want anything other than Cup Packs again as i love the spoiler and the wheels

However i know a salesman in Parks in Coatbridge so would get an amazing deal on it. I've not fully decided yet, but the ST doesn't feel right from getting the steering rack, the steering feels slack compared to how it used to

as i say apparently parks are getting a 197 in again, so see what 'they are geeing it'

of course they have a rather tidy 04 plater coming in soon with 84k on the clock - screaming ahem auction me!!

  VW Caddy Van
I'd love an R27 as i said but fuel consumption is a big thing for me and the 197 isn't as cheap to run like the 182 was or my ST is

ST has the better build quality and is easier to realise gains from (mainly the Mountune kit) which tbh if you budgeted for it id be putting serious consideration into keeping it.

all imo ofcourse

mountune kit only takes is up to around 185 brake though - which to be honest is what it should of been producing in the first place. the exhaust manifold on the st is supposed to be the size of a ka's!

then you have this to declare to the insurance - raising your premium.

imo forget bolt on tuning for small gains - its not worth it.

if you want a more powerful/faster car then buy a more powerful/faster car. simple

Agreed, although with the 185bhp the 0-60 time is slashed to around 6.7(ish) which like you said should have been in the first place.

They are very restricted im led to believe

The Flexi pipe is off a Ford Ka and the back box restrics 5bhp roughly also. It's all done for insurance group as it's one of the lowest grouped 2litres in the hot hatch region

I can't mod it anyways atm nor could i a clio due to insurance not allowing mods till i'm 25 next year and i can't change nor get insured with the likes of admiral etc as i have 6 points and a ban they won't touch me :( if they would then i'd have the ST lowered and tuning starting
