This sound ok?

  182 FF Inferno
Found a Clio I could be interested in. Its an 04 182. Don't think it has any cup packs (not actually sure whats in them?). Got all the usual - air con, climate, Xenons, leather/ suede. In silver (titanium the official colour). Full renault history and, apparantly immaculate. 3 owners.

Its at a garage and I can have it for £5100 - needs taxing though. All sounds good so far..... the one thing putting me off is the mileage 53,000.

Is this too much? I only do 7000 per year so wont add much to it and it does come with a 6 month warranty.

Any thoughts on this? Its a long way for me to travel to see it, so I'd like to know if you think its worth it?

Sounds fair to me, i'd want both cup packs though.

What do the cup packs consist of? From my limited knowledge, and looking round here seems to be spoiler/ splitter, anthracite wheels, stiffer suspension. Must admit to loving the dark wheels, not too fussed on spoiler/ splitter, and not sure on stiff suspension- down here in devon roads aren't in the best of condition!!

Yeah there were two cup packs for the 182, you've basically mentioned them both.

You're spot on mate! spoiler and splitter were one pack, anthracite wheels and cup suspension was the other pack

It's not that much stiffer, it's such a comfortable ride even over pot holes etc it just absorbs them

Mines has done 45k on an 04 plate, i paid £400 more than that for mines, long as it's well serviced etc then it'll be fine

Anyone got any views on the mileage? Says its got full renault history and I suppose its not *high* more average.

I'm getting a bit impatient as I'm having to use my motorbike (2007 R6) as everyday transport!!!

I'd probably struggle to get a 182 with cup packs in my budget (£5.5k very max ideally neare £5k)

Only thing with it is the belts will need doing the start of next year, quite a large job.

Funny you should say that as I asked the guy if it was due a belt change to which he said its not due until 72k. I guess theres a time limit and/ or mileage.

What sort of price would this be? Wouldn't be a main dealer, but the local french car specialist.

why dont you look at a low milage mint 172 matey. loads out there for 5k and less

That was the original plan. Maximum of £5k for a mint 172. But then noticed the prices of 182's dropping and I do like the twin exhausts!!

i see what your saying mate but you are paying 5k+ for a none cupped 182 with a fair few miles when you can buy a mint 172, with 30k miles on it...

for the sake of "10" bhp difference (and the cruise control etc) i think that would sway me towards the 172.

either that or hold out and wait for a better deal to come up! i will be in the same position as you in march anyway dude so i can see where your coming from (172 vs 182 etc)

Fully understand all that. Just that if I went and spent £5k on a mint, low mileage 172 I know I'd always be thinking why didn't I wait for a 182. Also most 172's I see round locally (not on here) are chavved right up. Just seems 182 attract a more mature owner.

Hold out for a slightly lower mileage 182 with cup packs if you really want a 182, the amount they have dropped to now is madness !

Agree with craig.

Dont buy something you haven't got your heart set on ors you will just hate it.

Mine is set on a RB 182 or an inferno 182.

anything else will just seem... "Lesser" somehow.

You should have bought mine you nugget. Went for £4200 on ebay the other day. Was 182 04-54 with 63k. Guy who came to get it was well happy. He got an absolute bargain. Mileage doesn't matter as much as condition. There are quite a few 'low' milers out there with no history but personally I would go for higher miles with history. Look for two keys, paperwork, etc.

for the prices 182 are going for now, i would not see any point in getting a 172 unless your budget was very tight.

my 182 was on 52k and ran sweetly with frsh. only thing i noticed was dampers were slightly worn and could have done with being replaced. if its only got around 2 owners with that sort of mileage, id think youd be okay.

matttr6 - I think that the reason that a 182 kind of attracts the more mature owner is because they still cost a tad more than a 172 etc, when they come down to the price of a 172, the younger folk will have them.
