in about 6 mounths i may look ath the option to get tb on my cup, i know roamer has em but how much do they cost?

You cant buy an off the shelf kit at the moment, but it wouldnt come in at less than about £3.5k. Hillpower will be doing one soon.

They sound amazing.

I have bought 45mm Jenvey Throttle bodies for my Golf @ £800, now need programmable ECU which are about £650 for the one I want. Plan to fit myself so maybe add £2-300 for injectors and other bits and pieces but all in for £1700 ish?

You are correct that I have to get a manifold, got most of the other bits except injectors and ECU. I am going to try to trade the throttle bodies I have for a new set specifically made for 16v head which bolts straight to the head (no manifold). The place where I got the Jenveys now sells these and they will fit better between head and slam panel. They are brand new and I think the place that sold them to me may be up for it with a bit of cash aswell. He also is very experienced at setting them up for this application so may trailer the car to him to be set.

lol.........rite

the throttle bodies themselves can be had for abot £500.........as u say then u need a fanimold, ecu etc

buying the actual parts is really the cheap bit.............its the r/r time where the expense comes in.....

iv got a self fit quote down to around £2500......and most of that budget is gone on r/r time

had my willy next to a t/bd willy, n u can hear mine above that, even from inside the t/bd one when moving, u can hear mine from behind it

ok. wot is a throttle body?

i kind of know what they are, but i must be thinking of the rong thing, as i was under the assumption that i had one on my standard 1.4 16v?

its the flap that lets air into the engine, on a normal car there is one flap which lets air into a plenham (sp?) chamber. Throttle bodies are like carbs but more modern, using fuel injectors

It takes ages to set up on a rolling road because the standard ECU cant control the throttle bodies, so one has to be programed to suit the engine spec. It has to set for different engine loads, revs, engine temp etc etc takes ages, unless roamer gave u a copy of his map which i very much doubt cost it would have cost him sh*t loads!!

So 2 live, maybe a clio costs more I dont know, but when you have a VW specialist who sells and fits and at one point even made his own flatside sliding throttle bodies which worked perfectly, and has tested, fitted and mapped numerous setups and has numerous maps which may need slight modification to run my engine which is a similar spec to his demonstrator, then does not cost sh*tloads as you put it.

Having spent the best part of 20k modding my car, not bodykitting it, but making it go/stop better, I have no motivation to make up prices for anything

You wont get it done for 1700 in the end......linkages, throttle cables, sensors, the loom, filters, air boxes, consumables etc etc etc.

Most people only ever factor for the simple hardware.

On your cup your choices are very limited, making the manifold isnt too hard if you know what to do, deciding on the correct bodies for the space, maximising inlet tract length whilst retaining a filter assembly that is of a decent size, also covering the inlets so you can source cooler air from elsewhere. New injectors since the std ones wont let you make the power.

We can do them easy for jsut about any car, but the only issue is that cost for cars without kits arent fixed as such and you need to be able to go with the flow on any problems or design changes that need to be made.

yes mate like i said the r/r bit is the ££££££ consuming part............but if this guy has set up so many of em then he will obviously have a base map to work from hence cuttin down time needed on the rollers

with the renos, because theres a severe lack of em runnin this set up , and those that are have all been done at difrent places, therefore no1 has a base map to work from and has to spend more time on rollers to get the best results......also tunin co.s dont seem to want to help each other so problems raised etc will have to be dealt with individually.....whereas the guy thats doin urs has obviously come up against all the probs before n knows his way round em.......again time=money
