Throttle sticking open Mk1 Ph3

Da

  Less
on a 1.2 engine. Once the engine has warmed up and you go over say 30mph the throttle 'locks' open and as you can imagine over-revs very noisily! Besides switching the engine off, the only way to sort it out is to lift the bonnet and give the throttle cable a bit of a yank so the throttle shuts off. This is on a friends P reg Clio which is currently lying poorly in a local garage (who are a Ford specialist :S ) If anyone can shed any light it would be greatly appreciated.

is the cable in contact with the zorst mani? causing it to expand and stick,?

its not a flw so can stick unless there is a phisical force

how do you know its the tb opening? sure it not a vac pipe thats leking (expanding when hot)

from my quick look at it yesterday the throttle cable isn't anywhere near the mani so don't think it'll be that.
I have never seen the fault 'in action' i'm just repeating the description I was given after it happened.

I'm 'told' that the wheel that the throttle cable attaches to on the tb simply locks fully open and the only way to free it is with physical force. The garage it's at are at a loss really and short of throwing £££'s at it my mate isn't really sure where to go next?

Have they tried lubing it up where the shaft the throttle rotates on goes through the throttle body casing ?

Could just be lack of/dry grease and its seasing when it warms up.

No, to my knowledge they haven't tried lubing it up. They simply said it was probably the throttle cable and were quite happy to change that tomorrow. I checked the cable for sticking etc and could find nothing, although this was with the engine cold and in the garage.

Just to add, the car first broke down a couple of weeks back and this proved to be the coil pack. This was all repaired and car was working till the TB problem.

I'd get it warmed up so it sticks then try the cable by hand and try the throttle body by hand as well so you should be able to work out which is causing the sticking. Could just be the grease in the cable when its warm, my clutch cable is starting to do the same thing.
