Time for Cambelt change, located near Manchester

  Clio 200 Cup
I need to get mine changed pretty soon. After searching previous threads I've found that Steve at S.C electrics in Bolton might be man for the job. Anyone used them recently or can recommend someone nearby. Thanks in advance Lee[emoji106]

I use a Renault Specialist - Gary Burnett in Warrington. Going later this week actually for a sodding starter motor (d*ckhead previous owner's amateur mechanics rearing their head).

Not used Gary for a cambelt but he has the Renault timing tools of course being a Renault Specialist.

I wouldn't recommend sc autos from what I've read.

It seems they shafted a few people on the 197 forum then closed the company and reopened with a new name after being threatened with court action.

Gary charges £550 all in, so both belts, dephaser, auxiliaries, coolant etc. £450 if you supply the PMS air-con delete kit as its an easier job.

Thanks, that sounds a great price and Warrington's not too far to drop off[emoji106]

I take my Megane to Mark Black in Creswell.
Took my Clio to Birchdown and BTM (Now shut) in Malpas
Heard good things about Gary Burnett too. Gary probs the closest. Mark's is a nicer drive over snakes pass tho from Costa del Stockport

Does Gary have any contact details? Or will is simply be able to find him under Gary Burnett?

He's who sorted my electrical issue on the 197. Took a long time and ~£700 but it ended up fixed and it was done very well. They were an auto electrical specialist mainly, or at least he was and there's a garage there too that's connected.

To be fair it was a nightmare. He let me up there the first day at zero cost and just told me all the various things it might be that needed changing, pointed to his car at the back and asked if i was handy with a spanner and if so crack on and swap everything over to see what's what. Unfortunately it was nothing like that and was an electrical short deep in the engine loom.

Car ended up with a virtually brand new R26 alternator too when we were trying different parts.

Had a lot of time for me so can't speak of any of the issues they have had with others.

Fair play, it's good to hear the good side of the story too.

Another recommendation for Gary. I've had a fair few phone calls with him before I booked mine in for the 30th May. The guy seems absolutely spot on, really knows his stuff and from what Niall and JB have said I'm really happy.
Mine's going in for major service, belts, outer steering arms and a general check-up.

Dropped off car in the morning, ready to collect in the afternoon, great service from Gary who really knows these cars. Taking back next month for a new pads/discs, gearbox oil change and MOT. A chat about K-Tec exhausts may be leading to another trip soon [emoji6]

Decent, does the flywheel never need changing on these? Presumably SMF?

I don't think so mate, unless it's clearly worn or damaged. I contemplated changing mine to the lightened TTV one, but it was another few hundred quid and for what i use it for there's not much point. Was already the best part of £2k in already.
