  CLIO 182
hi guys, new this website, be gentle haha...
just bought a 182 couple of months ago, just a bit of advice needed, got nearly 72k on clock and heard that the timing belt needs changing on it at about that mileage...
just wondering if thats the case and also ive heard at same time a need the aux belt a think its called changing?
also just an idea from the people who have had it changed how much has been costing and is it worth taking to a renault dealership???
thanks for any help and advice

cheers, apreciate it, hope thats the case, heard rumours that it was a lot more than that, any idea about the aux belt?

  RS Clio 182
Renault quoted me over £1100 for both belts a few weeks ago, what a joke...but i got it done at an independant renault specialist for around £400 instead

  Whichever has fuel
Birchdown, Rentech, K-tec, Gdi.......

All are people i'd rather take my car to than a Main dealers.

Depends on where your based, RS specialists will charge a fraction of the price and will give you a better service of quality.

based in north east, near durham, main dealer made a right mess of me exhaust system like, took it back because it was blowing, put a bodged up part on it, put loads of exhaust filler on and missed a bolt of the front clamp and finger tightend the other bolts up... manager said was the way a was driving it :S doesnt make sense to me

Don't accept it back,
Tell the manager to go f**k himself,
Complain to Renault about the dealership and manager.

only the Aux belt needs doing at 36k ;)

No idea who's closest up there, probably Birchdown

Clarify for me timing in this situation means cambelt ? which needs doing at 76kish and aux needs doing at 36kish.

Knew I had something mixed up.

For the price isn't it worth doing both at both intervals ?

its been done already, just need to find out when

Any technician worth using will change the aux belt at the same time as the cambelt. it's no extra labour and only about £20. Worth considering the Aux tensioner at the same time (extra £95 roughly) it's not 100% necessary, but it should be checked for play/rough bearings/chipped pulleys and it should move freely on it's pivot (they rust up and seize ocasionally)

Timing belt = Cambelt

it's quite a lot more work to do a cambelt. 5 hours in total roughly, or about 1 hour to do the aux belt including bumper removal etc
