timing belt 172

how often should the timing belt be changed?
ive only just got the car its a 52 172 on 31000miles. im a bit weary about it so i might just bung it in the garage now...

It says in the book somewhere but that is in the car and it's cold out... but IIRC it was 72000miles. Best check I suppose. Mines on about 31000 too.

I'm on 42k, hasn't been done as far I'm aware..I thought it was 70k+?

ahem.... 70k or 5 years whichever occures earliest
keep on safe side and do it a little bit earlier, no point having it fail on 70001 miles

Service book says 5 years or 72k, guess that ties in with the major service.

Had mine done at 36k, 4.5 years old.

Its 72k/5yrs but I'd chnage it at 60k personaly for piece of mind.
Its not cheap to do so if it does brek you can get a new engine fitted for not much more than the belt change would have cost anyway.
