*TINKLING* sound from rear suspension....

  DCi 80 DieselSport
I have a 172 Cup with standard rear shocks that need changing.

That aside, ever since I brought the car I've noticed that any time I roll over a bump or drive on a bumpy surface there's a *TINKLING* (best word I can come up with) from specifically the drivers-side rear suspension.

Imagine a keyring loop on a metal rod. Shake it. That's what it sounds like.

Any ideas? It's doing my f**king tits in.

Ta much.

Check the rear spring/s havent snapped with a loose piece jingling around as you drive. Not always immediatley obvious as it can be a very small section at the end (tail).

some places (i think mot centres?) have a station they can put the car on that simulates driving on bumpy roads etc
can't for the life of me think what they're called, but if you can find one of these places it would be easy to diagnose

FYI - This is only apparent when I have my window open.

If this 'tail' has snapped off....is it just a case of picking it out the spring seat?

just get the back end jacked up, any problem should be obvious then, also worth checking the top of the struts are ok (under the plastic caps in the boot )

if it has snapped i wouldn't drive until fixed , or at least as little as possible - rear springs are easy to change
