Managed to get the nuts off but the bolts won't slide out. The top bolt cap things been removed. Total stuck Tried whacking them with a rubber mallet but only budged a tiny bit.

The rubber mallet's your problem mate, use a hammer. I'd recommend screwing the nuts back on first thought to avoid causing any damage to the end of the bolts.

Changed springs this Saturday gone had same problem.
Placed jack under hub / wishbone to relieve tension and support hub, then placed nuts previously removed back on the ends too protect the bolt threads and tapped with a hammer.Enough to move them but not heavy handed.
First portion of bolt is machined to grip hub ,you will see this once you have moved it an inch or so,then they should come out easier.

Top advice guys. Got the shock out eventually and realised the mechanic who fitted the new shocks has rounded off the top bolt securing everything in place Was a dead end. Gonna let the garage at it. Annoying as the back springs look a piece of p*** too.

Should always try and loosen the top mount with the car on ground mate.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

A buzz gun makes the job so quick.

Top mount came off no bother bud. Referring to the 17mm bolt that keeps he spring from pinging off
