To 200, or to 197, that is the question.

whats the difference between a standard 197 and the r27? r27 has recaros as standard i assume, but what else??

Only 500 made and came with the recaros and LSD as standard. Plus the F1 Stickers (If that's your thing - although a decal delete was possible) in commemoration of the F1 success of that year. You got a numbered plaque next to the handbrake too.

I thought they only came in LY, Black & Red but assuming someone will be able to correct or confirm?

  SG 200
I have an FF 200 in storm grey. Absolutely love it and the colour is fantastic!

I personally prefer the front of the 200 over the 197. Although given an option of an R27 I'd probably have gone for that

200 all day. All the things that annoy me about the 197 are resolved in the 200. Get the cup with Recaro's and you can't go wrong.

All 197's and 200's had the revo-knuckle type hub carriers.

197 cup chassis was shocks and springs, red calipers and anthracite wheels
200 cup chassis was shocks and springs, quicker steering rack, red calipers, anthracite wheels and I think anti-roll bar was thicker.

Nope, all the 225/230 meganes had the same sort of set-up. The only difference with the R26 was the LSD.

All 197/200's and all Megane 225/230's had the same sort of hub set up

Id say the 200 was the better looking tbh.

Nah the 200 has downs compared the the 197

The only thing I wish my 197 had was the quicker rack of a 200 cupped

Oh and storm grey paint

Well, a little update. Been honing in on the right model. I found a reasonably priced R27..

Not too keen on the black. But as a coleague said, could just get it wrapped. Its the right spec for me, however one thing puts me off. Despite the low KM's of the car. Its had a brand new engine. (not fitted by Renault) This puts me off.

Also now debating a 2.2 VX220 (Opel Speedster), however, I am worried it will feel slow compared to the Clios?

I also would be put off by the new engine if Im being honest. I know it shouldt really matter, but it would always be in the back of my head..

Could make it harder tosell down the line too if you declare it?

The only options that has are climate control and xenons

Recaros and the cup chassis come as standard on the r27 model.

The cup chassis afaik is purely stiffer and lower springs and dampers and can be retrofitted to non cup packed cars.

So the r27 just gets you the ease of already having the recaros and cup chassis, then all you need to find are the Climate and xenons... And aero kit if you're that way inclined.

I didn't realise the engines were made out of chocolate on 197/200's though - lots of them going bang. I only found this out the other day when reading someone's engine went at low mileage. Some fella said it was because of long stroke issues - put me off buying a 197/200.

I've seen that getting mentioned as well. Although to be honest I haven't actually seen any/many come up on the forum considering.

Well, I am now the proud owner of R27 Number 0465! I will be picking it up on the 22nd of the month, when I get back from Vegas.
Full Renault service history, 98,000 km, cam-belt done at Renault in 2013 @70,000 km. Last service in april this year, all new brakes supplied and fitted by Renault, once lady owner from new (she bought a 200T from the same dealer, traded this back in)

It's not that common, just scaremongering IMO
