  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
im going to be leaving my job soon, and starting another one (hopefully lol) so the chance of getting a mortage for 12 months are slim to non. so i have this urge to just go buy a v6 lol

silly idea?
or once in a life time thing?

i promiced myself i would have one before i was 25

personally... i wouldnt buy a v6 when changing jobs. Perhaps a few months into the new one just to see if its a long-term one and your not going to be let off soon.

I also wouldnt buy a v6 if i was planning to move house. Id save really for house itself, furnishing etc. Or perhaps save enough for 2 deposits, getting one house on a buy-to-let.

If you can afford it, why not. If you don't have the money to buy it.. don't bother.

Nop.

Save for a house.

already done all the saving now lol

tbh id probably end up too skint to even be able to put fuel in it lol

i also have to give 30 days notice to get my money out of my savings, dont think anyone would hold a v6 for 30 days while i got my money haha

If you're changing jobs it would be sensible to at least wait until any probationary period was over.

Do it....!!!! At least you can say I had one of those once ;)

If I had the chance I would for sure.

I wouldn't. Fuel and servicing are nasty, and the value's aren't as solid as they used to be. Might be a 14k car to buy, but they cost a lot to run compared to a 172.

PMSL! Just don't go for any Enlarged Plenum chambers!

Amazing cars tho! - Nothing comes close imo.

How so, mines worth the same now as it was when i bought it. And i've put 10k on them...I'll never sell mine. Mark my words. I'd rather save up another 16k for another car than sell!

well IF i get this job... i could potentially be earning quite alot each more month.. i guess we will have to see lol

Lol, Laura,
a while ago when I was asked to start a thread 'have you ever driven a v6?'

You said something like, "I drove my mates one, it was nothing special"

Now your debating whether or not to get one ?? Love it.

That aside, it's a car well worth owning imo.

For that reason don't do it. It will take the enjoyment away from owning it.

I used to really want one too... i very nearly bought an average-mile Mk1 instead of my 182.

Nowadays, they do very little for me, i must admit. :S

You NEED to drive one too.

LOL! Be honest. Have you actually driven one or are you talking out the side of your head! Driving it is as special as lookin at it!! Even more so actually!

I wouldn't, but guess i wouldnt buy a house now either.

Are they really worth it just for the looks? And when your driving it you cant appreciate its looks.

Isn't a major service inc. belts over £1k?

Approx, but you can buy cars that have had the work done. Big service for a 172 inc belts is about half that!

It was more a reply to Iain's comment about a Vee being the same to run as a 1*2.

My major service on my Ph1... inc. all belts and a new water pump was only £370!

That's before you factor in tyres being £140 ish a pop and 22-odd MPG if driven the same as a 1*2.
