Todays Random Wifi Question?

so... when you go into say a big office complex they have multiple wireless routes around the building so the whole building has wifi coverage. but you only enter the password once and from then on your phone will just switch between them all so you have coverage.

how would you do this at home?

packetfence is the software that allows a mac address (part of your wifi card in phone/laptop etc) to roam over multiple locations. You also need a wireless controller with dumb access points (APs) . we have 700+ Cisco APs with packet fence controlled by a 5520 controller. Cisco Meraki units can do the same having independent wifi APs will require a lot of work and probably wont work that well.

MESH wifi is a way that one AP can talk to another without additional wires it would still need the authentication software/controller

On a smaller scale you can use a wifi repeater which will have the same log on

That's because they're f**king w**k.

Asus AIMesh is pretty good for home use, I use two RT-AC68U hardwired together at opposite ends of the house, haven't had to touch it since I set it up.
