Tombo's Phase 1 172

  Phase 1 172
Well ive had the clio for a good few months and decided that its about time i started a project thread.... i dont have any pictures from when i purchased it but im sure we all know what a standard phase 1 looks like :)

first modification was to get it lower, now i know most of you are going to slate me on this as i did choose raceland... to be honest i was kind of shocked with myself for choosing them however, i only use this car to get me from A to B and do not intend on tracking it, as im in the middle of saving to buy myself a track car so to be spending hundreds/ thousands on suspension to drive back and forth to work seemed pointless. However after fitting i have to be honest and im very impressed with how they perform, the ride is comfortable and not to firm.
here is how she looked once fitted.

My next task was to give her a good bath and scrub, it was filthy so after a few hours this is how she stood.

i then decided that the engine mounts were totally rubbish as i gained the common fault of the exhaust fowling the subframe so i got on the phone to Ktec and order engine mounts

in my infinite wisdom i decided to try and cut my finger off, so i had to stop here on this weekend. good old superglue stopped the bleeding and let me fit the mount back to the car but that was me done.

after a week of driving with this mount fitted and noticing the vast improvement, i was litterally excited to finish putting the rest of the mounts on, so the following weekend i did this...

after reading all the reviews and comments that the vibrations were a serious issue, i dreaded the first turn of the key..... but i have to be honest, i had basically nothing the engine felt solid and the vibrations were minimal, hardly noticable. but after the first test drive all i can say is the car has been transformed and this is a must have modification to all clio owners, just feels resonsive and has bettered the driving experiance ten fold.

my next modifiaction was to fit an exhaust, one came up on this forum at a good price so i bought it, would have stuck with the standard system however the centre section had a huge hole appearing so rather than buy standard again i purchased this.... excuse the dirty pics.

car sounded so much deeper and brought a lovely smile to my face as the sound was subtle and not OTT.

i then decided to give the calipers a lick of paint..... however there is brake dust on them now so pics dont look so great.

at first thought i believed i had made a mistake with the colour choice, but now im more than happy with the colour scheme.

after searching through this forum, i noticed a few members were adopting the skoda fabia splitter which i decided to invest in also...

its very subtle and a nice finishing touch to the bumper :)

i then booked the car into prospeed as i really want the car to have the stealth look, so decided to go for that one again and here is what charlie did....

im very happy with the sound and the cars back end suits the OEM theme i wanted to go for.

thats it for now... more updates soon :)

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
Nice work Tombo.. except that hideous twin tail piped exhaust you fitted earlier.. lol Good to see you've taken the OEM/stealth look route again. I have a Yoza stalth on mine which sounds very nice.

nice car

were the engine mounts difficult to fit?

thanks mate, yea they were pretty simple to fit, i removed the plastic sump gaurd and supported the engine with a trolly jack and soft peice of wood. Then removed all the existing mounts and replaced with the new uprated mounts, before tightening them up fully i unsupported the engine and rocked/manouvered the engine so it sits into its natural position and then tightened everything up. i have had no issues with vibration at all and am very pleased with the results. highly recommended modification to your car and well worth the money.
