Top Mount Symptoms?

  Not a 320d
I have a knocking coming from my left front wheel arch area. It sounds mechanical. It seems to knock at low speeds, even on flat surfaces, when I go round a roundabout, faster than normal, and weight is on my left hand side of the car, it doesnt seem to do it....

Ive had all my ball joints checked etc. They are supposedly ok.

Could someone tell me what I might expect with a worn top mount?

my top mounts would creak at low speed cornering, more so when on full lock, might have done it at higher speeds but could never hear it.

if it's pulling to one side and the tracking is OK, then maybe something more important is out of alignment.

OK ive had a mate look at it whos a mechanic. First thing he said when he got in and heard/felt the vibrations was roll bar link.

I thought when I had the origional roll bar link replaced a month or 2 ago it was the driver side one. So obviously the passenger had gone and was making the noise, as thats where the noise is coming from.

Turns out that the one on the left is nice and shiney and new, and the driver side is grafted and has play in it. So im having that replaced when it gets serviced. I just cant see how if a driver side link has play in it, itll make most of the noise all the way through the bar at the other side on the passenger side.

Does this seem possible?
