Top Mounts - Ktec vs Compbrake vs AST

the stock units cause positive camber when cornering apparently! they've only been used for 25years danny, i'm sure they're not as bad as people say ;)

I'd rather fix the pivotal point and do the setup intentionally than rely on how worn the rubber is personally ;)

Powerstation also sell these but they do not seem to be available from either company at the moment.

I'm looking at the AST top mounts now cos my renna ones are squeeking on my new Clio, sum1 was asking why change well my reason is I'm
pretty sure it was the top mount that snapped causing my accident which could of and was lucky not to of been killed. Good enough reason for me.

Think ill be after the ast ones in a month or so, like that you can adjust caster and camber and also not have to drill the bodywork.

Cheaper to get the ast's and just replace the bearings then? Or even buy a another set and it would still be cheaper.

Mark said it depends on how hard you are on the car. If you do a lot of trackdays and give your car some hammer then your better off with his, the bearings are uber expensive ones.

However for normal road use and the odd trackday, you are better off with OEM or AST.

AST's for me, decent price and I can fit them myself, just need to get the car setup by FMS for trackdays, sorted.

The shells on these cars flex massively. Ever wondered why they start to rattle more and more as they get older? Its the shell getting more and more soggy so trim doesnt fit so well.

You might think that stiffening up the front is a good idea, but how does it effect the flex in the shell? About the only thing keeping the back end attached to the front are the sills and the exhaust tunnel on a standard car. And thats thin metal.

The more you take flex out of the suspension, the more you transfer to the shell.

Personally i cant see any advantage to running solid top mounts unless you sort the shell first. In other words, it's a complete waste of time on a road car.

What would you do to stiffen up the shell in that case? Full cage I take it?

Mark Fish ones - the bearings alone cost the same prices as the compbrake complete kit.

Quality usually costs...

Think about it.

The ast ones been redesigned? They are gold on Kam racings site not orange!? Anyone know the reasons for the change.

its just how the orange has come out on the picture. the only difference from before is that they come ready to fit any strut now rather than needing machining for specific brands of damper

I noticed youve changed the picture on the website regarding my question.;)

If it has helped that was my intention, otherwise it was just a coincidence with us having stock and finally managing to get away from the default top mount image used on our site :rasp:

Where can you buy ast top mounts from? I would be interested in a set when I get paid to go with the collies :)

Whats peoples opinions on top mounts ? Can u really notice the difference ?

YES!!! You will deffently notic the difference. I fitting AST solid topmounts the other week.

Old top mount are like steering with a loose piece of string
AST top mounts are like steering with a tight piece of string.

You'll only really understand the difference when you go from old to new. :)

Hmm seems difference opinions and experience here.. Ill just have to wait and see what they feel like with the new Sportlines :)

In all honesty I only had the car for a few weeks before fitting them so maybe i havnt noticed the full effect :(
