Toping Up Engine Oil (Help)

i wanted to to top up my engine oil before trax

only thing is, i dont know what was put in there previous as it was done before i brought the car, the service was done by vauxhall....

would it be safe to put a little bit of 10w 40 in ?

In short yeah. Best sticking in what the factory recommends; 5w 40 is it? But oil is better than lack of oil in my book.
