Topping up oil

My oil gauge is currently showing o o o o _ _ so I'm looking to top it up. Few questions:

1. Halfords stock is s**t and I really want it sorted this weekend, is Mobil 1 0W-40W ok for top up? The only 5W-40W is there own brand which I don't want to use.

2. I haven't got a clue what the factory put in, is it ok to mix semi and fully synthetic?

whats wrong with halfords oil???

Where to begin? Having worked for Halfords myself i would never recommend using the oil they sell.... Castrol/Mobil all the time! I was told when i started that the oil was the lowest quality they could get away with selling....

Bit off topic, but was having a look at the filler cap for the first time since getting the car, couldn't get the damn plastic-flap thing open to access it. Prised it up as much without snapping it + noticed wires holding it down underneath. Only way I can see to get at them is by unscrewing the whole plastic engine cover + might not be enough room then - anyone else experience this on new car?

They're a bit of a b*astard to get off and if you do you'll probably snap it . Best way is just to undo the 4 torx screws and take off the engine cover . 2 mins of a job .
