Torque steering problem!

  172
Since purchasing my 172 5 months ago ive been getting less confident of throwing into corners, it feels really loose on the front end and when i put my foot down the torque steer is really bad. Especially when going up a hill, its too hard to control.

I took it to a local dealer and explained the problem and booked it in cos its still under warrenty, expecting a fixed car upon me returning their MK3 clio courtesy car all i got was 55 extra miles on the clock, a stiff clutch? and an explanation that because its a 2.0litre, the 172/182 suffers from torque steer!

I argued with the guys in their saying that its been getting worse and worse and was nothing like when i 1st bought it.

Any ideas what it could be, bottom arm etc?

I dont want to pay for a garage to do it when its still under warranty and dont want to leave it in the hands of a dealership who'll do everything to stop them paying for it to be corrected, and then hand the keys to a spotty trainee mechanic who'll procede to race his mates up and down the bypass in his lunch hour!!

How else do you explain 55 extra miles!! t***s

Any common problems or explanation for my problems will be great if anyone can help!

Does it pull in the same direction everytime? Or does it follow the camber in the road?

I have a problem with mine recently that under hard accelleration it pulls to the right. I have had all the geometry checked, corner weights and have nearly brand new PE2s on the front.

I would also be interested in any info on this.

I think you will just have to live with it tbh. The sport range will always torque steer under hard acceleration.

I dont think there is much you will be able to do to sort it.

The only option is, is not to accelerate so hard, but we all know thats not happenning. Personally, i love fighting to keep the car going in a straight line when im flooring it.

It sounds normal to me basically a combination of greasy roads prehaps getting more confident in the car as you're getting to know it?

What tyres have you got on? are they the standard contisport continentals 195's? what the tread like on them?

The 55 miles will all be down to the garages excuse to 'test' the car hence why i never take mine anywhere near a main dealer

4 Things

1. The tyres as they start to wear down the optimum grip also decreases and the car will suffer a bit more with torque steer.

2. The roads are bad at the moment with ice, Grit salt and water not to mention the diabolical state or repair the roads are in!

3. T/C- ESP, Mine seems to torque steer a lot more with this on as the wheels are trying to correct spin and you get more power to one wheel than the other which only increases the torque steer. You do need to be more sypathetic with the Loud pedal tho

4. Grip, Just hang on to the wheel tighter!! LOL

With new rubber and some dry summer conditions you will notice and improvement.

cheers guys

ive had two new Pirelli P Zeros on the front, new Kumyo's on the back only 2 month ago. This problem has been getting worse im absolutely sure of it.

Seems to pull all over going up hills. I wanted to get this sorted cos ive just got some 40mm apex springs that need fitting and will no doubt cause more headaches if these is something a miss.

I agree with the road conditions tho, its bad round here with salt and stuff.

Was hoping there might be a common problem, German Swedish and French sell bottom arms for £39 i think.

  Weeman sucks ****
As above, tyres might play a part in this and what I've also learned over the past 3 years, pressures can play with the cars handling a lot!

1 psi out on a side and mine snakes all over the shop.
